Some of you will know me already and some of you will not. But many of you will know how it feels to see a family member suffering with a serious health condition – it can be heartbreaking seeing them suffer but being unable to do anything about it particularly if it is simply a matter of being unable to afford an expensive medical treatment or surgery.

For over a decade I lived and worked in England, thousands of miles away from my family in Bangladesh, all the time wondering if I would be able to make it back home in time if any of my family fell ill. During those years my father never failed to call me each day to check that I was ok. I cannot even imagine life without my dad - he has been my inspiration and strength and I would not be where I am today without him, he has been with me every step of the way.

Unfortunately my father’s health has suffered in recent times. He has had three strokes and in April had a major heart attack which resulted in him having a coronary angioplasty to unblock his main artery. And two weeks ago he suffered another heart attack after which he discovered that the main artery in his heart is now completely damaged and he has several other blocked arteries that are working at only 20-30% of their usual capacity. He is currently unable sleep at night due to severe chest pain, his BNP level, which measures the likelihood of heart failure, is 1200 (the usual range is 300-400) and the doctors in Bangladesh have said that there is no further treatment that they can offer my father.

Not wanting to give up easily, I consulted with other doctors in India, who have advised me that it is possible to undertake open heart bypass surgery on his main artery despite the damage.

I therefore would like to take my father to one of the Narayana Health medical centres in Bangalore in India which is well equipped  for cardiac treatment and has high success rate for open heart surgery. But to go to Bangalore and undergo bypass surgery will cost around $8,000 to $10,000. We clearly need to get my father treated as soon as we possibly can before his condition worsens, but as I am currently the only earning member of my family, we are unable to afford such a large sum without the help of others.

Hence the reason for this fundraising appeal. I know times are hard for many at the moment but if you are able I would be really grateful if you could donate any amount, no matter how small, to help me and my family fund my father’s operation. You will, in short, be helping to save the life of a much loved father and husband, most importantly a life and we will forever be in your debt.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and I am thankful to have family and friends like you in my life.
