It’s that time of year again… As most of you know I was engaged to an amazing man who tragically passed away in an accident on October 9th, 2008. George was the type of guy who would take his shirt off his back to help another person. He was the kindest, funniest, and most wonderful man I ever met. He was a volunteer firefighter; he was a volunteer paramedic and an all around superhero. To honor him and his incredibly generous and altruistic nature, money is raised each October to help someone in need. This year I am honored to be raising money for Binkeez for Comfort®.
I am really excited about this organization. I spent hours scrolling through their Instagram feed and read about the kids they help. The Binkeez mission is to provide blankets to babies and children struggling to survive life threatening illnesses, acute developmental and neurological disorders and severe burns. This organization makes a real difference in the lives of those it touches by providing much needed comfort to suffering children.
This year, for this fundraiser, the founder of Binkeez has named a special fire fighter themed blanket to honor George.
Each Binkeez blanket is made from the very best fabrics. These fabrics are both lead-free and hypo-allergenic. Furthermore, they are independently tested to pass consumer safety act protection laws as well as government safety standards. Each Binkeez blanket is hand-crafted by one of their dedicated volunteers to figuratively and literally wrap patients and their families in love and hope for healing, comfort and survival.
The driving force behind this organization is to support the most critical pediatric patients. Child life specialists within the hospitals they serve have noted the benefits of Binkeez to improving outcomes among patients and their families. When a child feels safe and less anxious the body is better able to fight disease. Binkeez for Comfort® has the humbling privilege of positively effecting the lives of thousands of children facing life threatening illnesses.
Binkeez are sent to kids who are birth to 18 years old who are suffering with life threatening illness or in hospice care. These children are all fighting illnesses away from the comforts of home. How amazing to be able to help bring these blankets to kids who are going through so much? The money that we raise will go directly to Binkeez to make and distribute blankets for children in hospitals.
