Handicap Access for O.R.R. Press Box

Tax deductible
HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE !!!

For 40 years, this Press Box stood atop the stands at the main field at Old Rochester Regional High School.

Due to cost overruns, the Press Box was NOT rebuilt during the 2003 school renovation DESPITE being on the plans.  As a result, ORRHS has been the ONLY school on the South Coast without a Press Box for the past 17 YEARS.  To put that in perspective, some members of this year’s graduating class had not yet been born.
Almost two DECADES of game announcers, scorers, reporters, and coaches performing their duties in the rain, snow and sleet.  Two decades of electronic equipment exposed and damaged by the elements.
With the support of the ORR School Committee, and the help of local engineers, architects and builders, the ORR Athletic Boosters have under taken the daunting task of rebuilding this valuable Tri-Town community asset.

Over the past 2 years, the Boosters have raised the money necessary to build the actual Press Box, but have sought assistance from the community for the HANDICAP ACCESS SYSTEM required by State law.  The ramp/lift combination will cost $60,000 and will not only provide access to the Press Box, but also additional wheelchair seating at the top of the bleachers.   Last spring, the residents of Marion and Mattapoisett voted overwhelmingly to contribute $20,000 from EACH of their CPA Funds to help provide a HANDICAP ACCESS SYSTEM to the new Press Box at Old Rochester High School.  These funds are contingent on ALL THREE TOWNS participating in the Handicap Access portion of the project.

Due to Rochester not having adopted the Community Preservation Act, funding must be raised differently.  The Town of Rochester has set up the O.R.R. Handicap Accessible Press Box Account and is now actively accepting donations.  Checks can made out to the “Town of Rochester” and can be brought to the Town Hall.    Please note " ORR Handicap Accessible Press Box Accounts" on your check's memo line.    (A sample donation letter is provided below.)

All donations to this GoFundMe drive will be deposited in the Town of Rochester account and used to insure that this new facility is accessible to ALL.  Please consider this worthy cause in your year-end charitable giving.

I am thrilled to announce that a generous gift of $5,000 has lowered our goal to $15,000 and with YOUR support, this much-needed and long-overdue project will quickly become a reality.  We humbly ask that you consider making a year-end charitable donation to this worthy cause before January 1st so that the Press Box can be completed in time for the Class of 2020 graduation ceremonies in the spring!
Thank you in advance for YOUR help in building something that ALL members of the Tri-town can look at with great pride and that will serve our ENTIRE COMMUNITY for decades to come.

Respectfully,

Justin Shay
