Stop the State Road Grow Factory

Donation protected
On December 3rd, 2019 the Planning Board of Webster, NY granted preliminary and final site approval for the single largest earthwork project Webster has seen in decades. The excavation, level grading and paving would completely destroy over 111 acres of farmland, along with wetlands and woodland habitat, and turn a beautiful rural area into an industrial site.

In approving this project as a 'customary agricultural use,' the Town Board did not set the project before the Zoning Board, nor did they classify the project as an action requiring an Environmental Review.  CEA Fresh Farms argued that their grow factory fits into the zoning while the residents argued that it did not, and cited specific town code and zoning requirements to the contrary.

The citizens of Webster demand that due process be followed, and this project be treated as the industrial project it so clearly is.  We have nothing against lettuce and nothing against lettuce factories.  We simply want the lettuce factory in an industrial zone, where it belongs, like every other lettuce factory; not in a residential area on actively worked farmland. The Webster Citizens for Appropriate Land Use (WeCALU) have consulted with exceptional lawyers and will be appealing the decision of the Planning Board with a goal of pressing the Town of Webster to address the issues we have raised.  Please support the citizens of this community in fighting for justice. The chairman of the Planning Board said that he expected an appeal regardless of the Board’s decision.

We may not have pockets as deep as CEA, but we have the passion to protect our hometown! We would be humbled and grateful if you would help us pay for the best legal representation in the area; a firm with extensive expertise and experience in these matters. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Alan Knauf, the owner of the law firm, will be the individual responsible for withdrawing the funds into his account. These funds go to pay for the legal fees and do not come to WeCALU.
