TIME CAPSULE - Project Brief

It's a space story, virtual gallery and video game set in the future. The exact date is unknown to the player.

Welcome to the luxury gay space communism of the future! Unfortunately, all of humanity has died out, and this cultural time capsule is all that's left. Fortunately, this time capsule is the very best that humanity has to offer: the art, creativity and expression of its queers.

You're an alien being that's stumbled upon this human relic.

As you make your way through the game, exploring the various galleries and sponsor spaces, you collect clues and documents. Slowly you discover that in 4044, all of humanity was slowly dying out from super-powered microbes, a consequence  of capitalism and the destruction of natural order. It was discovered, that queer people had a light, or power, within them that helped combat illness, making them much more resilient than the rest of the population to disease. Realizing that queer people were humanity’s last hope, all remaining energy and resources were used to conceive and create the time capsule, a self sustaining environment, spacecraft, monument to humanity and portal to the past - a final hope for a final frontier. Eventually, the remaining space-bound humans all succumbed to illness, and the time capsule was left to float throughout the depths of space, awaiting discovery. Awaiting purpose.

Each artist and sponsor will be represented by unique gallery spaces that hold clues and secrets from the past. The player can opt to collect these items as they peruse the virtual space.

If all the clues are discovered, a portal is unlocked. This portal allows the alien/player to travel back in time to the moment before humanity came to an end. In fact, this is the entire reason the time capsule was created. Human beings knew they couldn’t save themselves in the time they had left, so they hoped to attract a hero from the future, to whom they could prove their worth, and perhaps be saved by.

This is the end of the first game. The second game would be a 2022 event, and would take the story further, expand on the game and add more gallery space featuring new artists and sponsors. The second game would explore the concept of 4d spaces, alternate realities and the perception of consciousness, as the player asks their self what it means to save humanity.

Depending on where things are at COVID-wise, this virtual event may also be paired with a live event in early December of 2021. This would be a winter gala sharing the futuristic, post-apocalyptic theme of the virtual gallery.

Trans artists from all over the world will be asked to create work specifically for this concept. Artist makeup will be at least 50% POC, 50% disabled and 50% femme.

The scope and style of the game will be dictated by the funds raised.
