On the evening of June 6, TK suffered a brain aneurysm and was found on the floor of his kitchen as much as 8 hours later. TK has made it through surgery (it went well), but there’s a long road ahead.
Here’s the longer story...
I (Kelvin) was married to A for about 25 years, & over that time TK (A’s brother) was consistently the “cool breeze” at somewhat hectic (lots of kids) family gatherings. Nothing fazed him. Everybody loves TK. TK & his younger brother J have lived together on the West side of town for a long time.
TK works as a baker (early morning hours), & J works in manufacturing, 2nd shift. On the afternoon of June 6, TK dropped J off at work at 1:45pm, & went home. TK usually has dinner around 6pm. J got home from work at 1:45am to find TK on the floor, dinner still in the oven, oven still on. So TK may have hit the deck before 6 and laid there for 8 hours.
Rushed to ER, theories and opinions swirling in a confusing mess. First news I heard just before 6am today (7th) from A was unsure of this, that, or the other, but something about an aneurysm.
All day today, TK has been unable to speak. The affected area is frontal lobe. Bleeding in the brain, but some blood was being re-absorbed (good). TK appeared to probably recognize his siblings, and for a short time was answering yes/no questions with thumbs up/down. That didn’t last. All day TK was described as agitated.
It took much effort from sisters and hospital staff to hold his strong arms down so tests could be performed. The surgery went well, and recovery in the hospital will be 7-10 days. This is the critical time frame in which a recurrence is most likely. Then another 4-6 weeks recovery/therapy/whatever after hospital discharge. How well he recovers, and to what regained capability is anybody’s guess at this point.
TK has long been a regular labor guy, seldom working at places which would have a Health Insurance benefit, and he does not have insurance now. This is why I’ve bumped up the campaign amount. We have not even begun to find out what kind of financial disaster awaits.
If you’re the sort to pray, please pray.
If you’re the sort to meditate, please meditate.
If you’re the sort to weep, then by all means weep.
If you can help ease TK’s incredible financial burden, I beg of you, please help.
TK has always been so very generous with his time, talents, and friendship. He’s a gentle, loving, caring, inclusive, curious fellow of a rare sort, and he needs you.
