TKE Gamma Kappa Legal Fund

Thanks for visiting the TKE-Gamma Kappa Chapter GoFundMe. As a chapter, we've managed to go from 4 students in a dorm room to a housed fraternity with over 120 active members in the span of just 5 years.  I was recently initiated in the Spring '17 Iota class, along with 34 other individuals who I couldn't be more proud to call my brothers.  As one of the newest members of the chapter, I can personally attest to the incredible brotherhood, care and compassion demonstrated to myself and my pledge brothers throughout the entire new member education process. Having rushed almost every house on this campus prior to choosing TKE, I could tell in an instant that no members of any other chapter demonstrated the brotherhood, professionalism, and upstanding qualities that TKE did.

This fall, as our new member candidates were getting acclimated to the chapter and house on their first day, one of them fainted, seriously injuring his jaw. We immediately seeked proper medical treatment for him, however, since it is an injury of a new member, the school is treating it as a hazing case. IU Police Department detectives reviewed the case, interviewed countless new members and brothers, and determined that this case in no way should be treated as a hazing case, but instead a freak accident. Unfortunately, Indiana University's Office of Student Ethics and Office of Student Life and Learning (SLL) disagrees, and has put our chapter under a Cease & Desist order for over 50 days now. They have not only prevented us from having weekly chapter meetings and brotherhood and social events, but they have also prevented us from raising money and participating in our fall semester philanthropic efforts, which raised over 10k last year for Riley Children's Hospital & St. Judes. The office has never provided us with a hearing which would be inconsistent with due process guidelines set forth in the U.S. Constitution, which apply to public, taxpayer-funded universities.

This Cease & Desist order has detrimentally affected our chapter in almost every way, and as such a new chapter, we lack the resources to seek legal representation at our hearing with the school. We have, however, consulted with multiple legal professionals who believe it is in our best interest to have representation at this hearing to ensure we are treated fairly as a chapter and that this works out in the best possible way for all parties involved.

We appreciate any contribution you can afford, and can ensure all donors that if the funds end up not being needed, they will be returned to donors (minus GoFundMe fee) or, if preferred, donated to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital.
