The indigenous communities that surround Titilaka are an essential part of what makes our guest experience, and Lake Titicaca, so special and unique in the world. These communities have been part of our extended family for many years and they have touched the lives of visitors from all corners of the globe. Our most memorable excursions involve their interaction with our guests, our kitchen sources ingredients that are grown by their hands and caught from their lake, artistic capabilities are passed down from generation to generation and are converted into a key source of income through community members selling their handicrafts to visitors.
Everyone is being impacted by this terrible global pandemic, some much more than others. For the 150 families in the four communities surrounding our lodge - No Travellers Means No Income.
So we’re launching the “Titilaka Lake Communities” initiative, a fundraiser to supply basic food items and virus-protective supplies to 150 families inthe four communities surrounding the lodge. Our goal is to collect 31,500 USD. This amount will allow us to provide a basic food basket for one month (150 USD) and a virus-protective supply kit (60 USD) per family.
We acknowledge that this may be a complicated request in these difficult times. However, if you can, we kindly ask to please join us in supporting Titilaka’s communities in whatever way possible so that we can all get through this crisis together. If you have visited us before, please leave a memory of your time meeting the people of Lake Titicaca, and if you have yet to visit, please let us know what intrigues you about experiencing Lake Titicaca in the future. For the communities to know that they are not forgotten during all of this, and that people from around the globe carry their spirit in wonderful memories of them, while others dream to meet them one day and know their mythical lake, can be as uplifting as receiving financial aid.
