Titi Gulley Justice Struggle

Donation protected
On May 27, 2019 community members found Titi’s body hanging from a tree at Rocky Butte Park. Portland police came to the crime scene. They deemed it a suicide on the same day she was found. Neither Family nor Friends ever thought Titi was suicidal.

Community outcry caused the Portland Police Bureau to make a show of reopening the case. They never followed-up on the numerous leads that the Family gave them. After 5 days, they decided again that it was a suicide and closed the case.

All donations go directly to Titi's Mother Kenya Robinson, who will use the money for her struggle to get justice for Titi's murder.

More about Titi and her Family
Titi was excitable. She talked very fast. She loved music and dancing. She loved painting and showing the world how beautiful she was. Titi was resourceful… a survivor.

She loved the people in her life, especially her Family who she fiercely defended and protected.

And, Titi's immediate Family loved and supported her. No matter what Titi wore or how she sounded, her Mother, Kenya Robinson, and Siblings always treated her the same. Titi's ways never mattered to them. They took care of each other. When Kenya was struggling with a health issue and couldn't get the chores done, Titi did them. If Titi needed something, the Family was right there, bringing her what she needed.

Titi was profiled for her identity, for being Black and Trans, and arrested over and over again. Whenever this happened, her Mother would get rides, take the bus, and call around -- without rest -- until Titi was found.

Titi never missed Mother's Day. But in 2019, Titi DID miss Mother's Day. Kenya knew something was wrong. Titi had been arrested again. When she got out, she went straight to her Mother. They were glad to be reunited. On that day, though, Titi mentioned some things that made Kenya worry, but refused to go into detail. Titi was lynched about two weeks after Mother’s Day. She was 31 years old.

The loss of a Loved One to murder is almost unbearable. Combined with a justice struggle against police, it's literally heartbreaking. Kenya wakes up every morning thinking of Titi. Disabled with grief, she drags herself through the day, trying to get justice for her child. Titi is her last thought at night before she sleeps, which comes poorly and sometimes not at all. The entire Family’s health predictably suffers from this injustice.

The police have completely failed Titi and the Family. And they’ve failed us. When killers are not brought to justice, the community cannot be safe.

But we will not fail Titi or this Family, because Titi’s life mattered. Titi was a special person who was Loved and cared for by Family and Friends. She brought a wonderful joy to this world and the people who knew her. She is missed and will not be forgotten.

Kenya and the rest of the Family need the support of this community to continue this justice struggle in Titi's name. They cannot do this alone. This is why we will continue to support this Family and say her name until we get justice for Titi Gulley and her Family.
