On behalf of my sister and I, I want to be clear in saying that I have no business sharing this information with you. I was made aware of this situation simply due to the fact that Uncle Pete works with my mom and sister every day and my dad has accompanied him to his doctor appointments. Uncle Pete is a very private person and he hates to be the center of attention. He deals with anxiety as do many of our family members. I know first hand what that is like and how easy it is to feel overwhelmed. So by sharing this with you, I am asking you, our dear friends and family members to not swarm him with phone calls, especially at El Bravo. I am already going to be in trouble for sharing this, but I am willing to take on that responsibility. It would be best if you didn't say anything. Let's let Uncle Pete tell people as he sees fit. Gossip happens (Lord knows in this family especially) but I really don't want him to know about this 'go fund me' until it's time to hand it over.
The big news. Uncle Pete was diagnosed with prostate cancer. His doctor has told him 1) the cancer is aggressive, 2) surgery will not be an option. The next step is scheduling bone scans to see how far it has spread.
There is little we can do at this point but pray. So first and foremost I am asking for your prayers. Second, I would like to see Uncle Pete maybe do something relaxing, maybe a vacation, or simply the luxury or not stressing over medical bills. Being an unmarried small business owner, Uncle Pete doesn't have any sort of employer healthcare benefits. He relies on his business for paying his bills. I know he has been generous to many family members over the years, always helping out when he is able. I am hoping that with a family this size we can scrape together a sizeable gift to cover his impending medical bills. Or maybe by some miracle, we can convince him to go on vacation. Honestly, I am going to tell him to suck it up and think of it as an 80th Birthday present since he refused to let us have a party.
Please give whatever you can, even $10 with a family this size would really add up!
And again, please don't throw me or Denise under the bus!! Please share this privately with your extended family members.
