Tiny Science Spring Fundraiser
Tiny Science is a special community resource for young kids and grown ups! Teaching fun classes about insects, Jen has been inspiring big thinkers in her community since she started visiting her kids' preschool classes with mantis tanks in 2015. Kids are already well-informed and experienced with insects and Jen takes their contributions and ideas seriously, inspring learner confidence, especially in science. It's what Tiny Science is really about.
Just before the pandemic, Jen was recovering from a bad marriage and worse divorce. She had turned Tiny Science into a viable business to support herself and her two kids, visiting preschools, elementary schools, and community groups in Seattle to inspire learners- young and old- with science. When the pandemic hit, Jen pivoted to online teaching. While this challenge has brought new skills, it has been a financial drain. Constantly responding to demand and growth, Jen is now preparing to offer video downloads of her awesome classes for families to enjoy on their schedule. Between filming episodes and Mantis Madness, Jen is gearing up for a very busy Spring and Summer.
Now, wouldn't you believe it, Jen's landlords have decided to sell. Ha. Well it's not the first time she's faced adversity (or housing insecurity; it's not uncommon, folks). The moratorium protects Jen and her kids for now, but this fundraiser and Mantis Madness are very important events this year for Jen and her kids. We need to make enough money to secure our next rental home before the moratorium lifts.
