Hi everyone, my name is Brandi – I’m a close friend of Larissa (Ashley’s sister), and also a fellow twin mama.

I’m starting this GoFundMe on behalf of Ashley and her incredible family, who have been through a rollercoaster of a journey over the past several months. Many of you know parts of their story, but for those who don’t, I’ll give you a quick overview of what’s been going on – and why they need our help now more than ever.

Two Pink Lines, One Big Surprise

Back in November 2024, Ashley found out she was pregnant again—completely unexpected with a toddler at home and a tough history with pregnancy. But what came next was even more shocking… TWINS. And not just any twins—rare, high-risk Mono-Mono twins, which means they shared the same sac and placenta.

This type of pregnancy comes with huge risks—cord entanglement, twin-to-twin transfusion, preterm labor, and more. Ashley’s care was quickly transferred to a maternal fetal medicine team in Vancouver, and she was monitored constantly.

Life on Hold: A Mama in Hospital

At 23 weeks, Ashley was flown to Vancouver alone by medevac for preterm labor. She left with only her purse, flip flops, and the clothes on her back. The goal was to delay delivery as long as possible. She ended up spending over a month living in the hospital, away from her daughters, her partner, and everything familiar, while being monitored around the clock.

May 6, 2025 – Emergency C-Section

At just 28 weeks and 2 days, everything changed. After a painful morning and constant contractions, Ashley was rushed into an emergency C-section. Baby Beckett arrived first, full of fight and letting out a big cry. Amarah followed, but didn’t breathe right away. It was the most terrifying silence.

But… she cried. She made it. They both did.

Two Little Fighters

Beckett and Amarah are here, they are alive, and they are fighting every single day in the NICU. They were born extremely early and will remain in hospital for quite some time as they grow stronger.

Why We’re Raising Funds

This has been a physically, emotionally, and financially draining journey for Ashley and her family. With Ashley away for so long, travel costs, living expenses, and time off work have piled up. Now with two premature babies in NICU, those expenses will only continue to grow.

Their savings have been completely depleted due to a series of unexpected challenges. The financial strain of living apart, managing additional expenses in two places, and purchasing essential supplies for both mom and the girls has taken a significant toll. On top of that, there have been unanticipated medical needs for mom herself.

Looking ahead, there are ongoing and upcoming costs associated with the twins’ continued care, including their eventual transfer to a hospital closer to home and the expenses that come with it. After discharge, there will also be travel expenses for follow-up medical appointments — including visits with a cardiologist and potential travel for Amarah’s brain scan assessments.
