Timo Aracena's Medical Fund

On Sunday, February 4th, 2018, my grandson Timo (TJ) was involved in a tragic accident. He was working on some baseball drills with his dad (just another typical day for these two). They were using a resistance band tied to the fence and the other end tied to a bat (this drill works on bat speed). Timo was taking his last full swing when somehow the band snapped, he lost his footing and the bat came full speed at his face, injuring his left eye socket area. Thinking he was only going to need stitches, my daughter brought him to the closest hospital (Indian River Medical Center) because he was bleeding and complaining of feeling dizzy and nauseous. They arrived at the hospital and thankfully got him right back to evaluate him. The staff knew because it involved his head and eye area, he was now a trauma patient and had to be transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, which is one of the best area trauma centers and is great with children. They were then transported over via ambulance. Once they arrived, the doctors knew the seriousness, and realized his eye had been swelling profusely. They did a quick CT scan and found a fracture above his eyeball (right around his eyebrow area), and internal bleeding. They had to then make a decision to cut the ligaments next to his eyeball to relieve the pressure. After a few hours in the ER (to make sure he was stable), they moved him to PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit). They were able to monitor him 24 hours a day, checking all of his vitals, giving him antibiotics and fluid through his IV line, and be in the comfort of his own room. He was not allowed to eat, for fear they'd have to do surgery asap. Many trauma doctors came to visit him over the next few hours, and early the following day. They also brought in pediatric doctors, followed by opthomology doctors, a maxillofacial surgeon, oculofacial surgeon, and many others. They did multiple CT scans over the next few days to monitor his progress, and to make sure his eye area was not worsening. His eye area was so swollen that a hematoma formed, pushing his eyeball out and downward. He now requires 2 different eye creams to prevent infection, as well as antibiotics 3x a day. He needs to do hot compresses to help with getting the swelling down, as the doctors cannot do much until then. He has already had 3 days full of doctors appointments, most far away, and next week has many more appointments, near and far. My daughter and son-in-law have insurance for Timo, however, not everything is covered. And they have had so many other expenses such as income loss from not being able to work, food while in the hospital or on the go, gas, bills and so much more. I'm reaching out to family and friends to help relieve the burden of all these costs they've already incurred, and will have to face in the coming months.
