Help for the Timm's Housing Crisis

Donation protected
We need help securing a place to live in the next two weeks.

We have been given notice by our landlord that we need to move out of our house by November 15th as he has listed the home for sale with a Realtor and wants to do some projects in the house once we are out. (UPDATE: we have been allowed to stay until the end of the month if we can come up with November's rent)

I was let go from my job earlier this year and have been relying on freelance web development projects and state assistance to get by.  My unemployment benefits ran out in September and all of my development work has also dried up.  We are behind on rent and interruption of electric and phone service is imminent.

I have been applying on all sorts of jobs in the IT industry (I have 19 years of experience as a Web Developer and IT Manager), but have had only a couple of interviews which did not pan out.  The market is very competitive right now, and my particular combination of skills and experience makes it hard to find a position.  I am hopeful however, that something will come about in the coming weeks.

Due to our situation, it is VERY difficult to find anyone willing to rent to us.  Most property management companies are not options at this point due to strict employment and income standards.  Our credit is also not the best which only makes things more difficult.  Our best hope is to find a landlord that manages their own property and who is willing to give us a chance.  I have found a couple, but because of the uncertainty, they want 2-4 months of rent up front + deposits and move-in fees.

It has been easy to ask people to pray for our family in this time as we have weathered similar trials in the past and God has brought us through them victoriously.  There was a time when I was sent to Florida for a year in the military where we literally drove into town without a place to live and our belongings were to be delivered in 24 hours.  God did provide a great house for us within a day (even with some credit issues) and it all worked out great.  I know that God will always provide for our needs, and I believe strongly in the power of prayer.

Asking for financial help however, is not something that comes easy for me.  I very much so believe that I am solely responsible for taking care of my family and I have felt that to ask for help is to admit defeat and failure.  But, I know that is mostly just pride talking and that at some point, everyone needs a little help.  So having been encouraged to do so by a few of you, I decided to post this in case anyone feels led to assist us.

I would prefer to work in exchange for money.  If anyone needs any web development work done, my rate is $75 per hour and I have a ton of experience and can do just about anything on the web.  I build very nice brochure-type websites for around $1000 and e-commerce websites for around $2000 and up.  I also build custom web applications for companies looking to automate processes or provide tools to their customers or employees.  I can give you a custom quote for anything you need done.  Feel free to ask for examples of my work and references.

If on the other hand, you do not need any web development work done and you just feel led to donate to our cause, please feel free to use this website to make a donation.  This experience is very humbling, but I want to thank you for even hearing me out.  We know that God will provide for us, but we also know that sometimes He does that through friends, family, and the community.

About Us

I am Jason Timm.  My wife, Heidi and I have been married for 22 years and are proud parents of 4 kids.  Two of them have special needs and that contributes to our need for a safe and stable housing and living situation.

I (Jason) am an IT professional and have been developing websites and working in various other positions in the IT industry for 19 years.  I have a BA in Math from the University of Washington as well as an AA from Clark College.  I have served as an officer in the United States Air Force.  I have taught at the high school, college, and corporate levels.  I have served as an online pastor for Living Hope Church in Vancouver, WA.

Heidi is currently enrolled in a program at Bryan University to attain a degree in Exercise Science.  She plans on becoming a personal trainer and fitness instructor upon completion of the program next year.  In the meantime, she works part-time as a preschool teacher assistant and has an internship at Northwest Personal Training in Vancouver.

Joshua (19) is our oldest son.  He does not live at home anymore but comes to visit regularly.  He has a job and is looking to begin college next term.

Megan (16) is our oldest daughter.  She is a junior in high school and hopes to do something creative as a career.  She struggles with anxiety, depression, and PTSD due to trauma earlier in her childhood.

Rebekah (11) is currently a 5th grader and is a caring and compassionate young lady who loves to dance.  She has Type 1 Diabetes and has to do many things that most people don't every day just to stay alive and healthy.

David (5) is our youngest and started Kindergarden this year.  He is very smart and inquisitive -- and full of energy!

What the Funds Will Be Used For

We will use the proceeds of this campaign for rental application fees, move-in fees, deposits, rent, and for various utility payments to get us through until we move and are settled.  We have a little bit saved for a deposit, but will need around $5000 more to cover all of these costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Have you checked into state assistance programs?

A: Yes - for sure.  We are getting whatever assistance we qualify for and I have been on top of seeing what is available.

Q: Have you checked for community resources that might be available?

A: Yes.  I have called the Salvation Army, St. Vincent DePaul, Operation Warm Heart, and other community assistance programs.

Q: With the holiday season approaching, can you just go get a job (or two) at a retail store until a better opportunity comes along?

A: I am currently applying on jobs every day and utilizing my network to find opportunities.  I am sure that I will find something in the next few weeks.  Unfortunately, that will help us pay the bills going forward, but doesn't help in the short term.
