10 Skate & Educational Packs for Maputo Skate Park

BECAUSE YOU PLAY AND WE CODE GAMES, OTHERS GIVE!!
Hello! My name is Ricardo and I am the founder of Keep•It•Human. Together,  Alena Mesarosova and Manu Ferrer and myself are fundraising for  Maputo Skate, - a non-profit organisation established in Khongolote, Maputo. Maputo Skate focuses on edu-skating, which is designed to keep young people away from gang culture, drugs, alcohol and crime in Mozambique. We made a wonderful game celebrating the music and culture of Mozambique to fundraise! 100% of the money collected will be donated to Maputo Skate

The construction of Maputo Skate Park in 2019 was the result of a combined efforts by Skate World Better, Wonders Around the World, SOS Mozambique, and Maputo Skate. However, there is now a strong urge to resource the necessary equipment and educational tools (i.e. skateboard, repairs, safety equipment) to keep the ‘park's bearings’ rolling. We want to build on their success.

WHAT ARE WE ASKING FOR?

We are asking for 10 educational skate-packs which include a skateboard, a helmet, four protective pads and a small educational kit (i.e. a notepad, etc.). Each skate-pack has a cost of £150 - the equivalent of €168, $199 or 14,209 MZN.

If we surpass our initial goal, the aid will be used to purchase additional skate-packs. All of the equipment remains in the Maputo Skate facility, so that more than one young person can use the skate/safety equipment at different times of the day. However, the educational kit will be of personal use.

Francisco Vinho, the founder of Maputo Skate, is currently providing an edu-skation to more than 150 young people per week; ranging from 5 to 17 years of age. Maputo Skate is an official partner of The Goodpush Alliance, offering Francisco training and advice via online resources, workshops, support calls, and awards.

ABOUT OUR SOCIAL FUNDRAISING GAME:

Our personal KickFlip to the campaign is a musical game!: DOWNLOAD IT NOW! It was released as promised on September 8th 2020

We strongly believe that music is the most universal language and is hugely transformative. You can help us to demonstrate that! Our team, alongside maestros percussionists Miquel Bernat , and Matchume Zango  have together explored, promoted and studied Timbila Music, from Mozambique, since 2012. With this combined effort, we’ve now made a cool musical game called TIMBILA LIVE AID  - which is free to play! The game aims to boost donations to Maputo Skate and lets you experience the wonders of African music, including the Chopi Timbila (Unesco's Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity), combined with other cultures.

In appreciation of your help - we gift you our digital twin!

We hope you play and enjoy our musical game at itch.io https://timbilaliveaid.itch.io/timbila-live-aid

When you earn enough rhythmic energy (through making music on our Social game Timbila Live Aid), or you donate to this gofundme campaign, we will provide you with an extra gift, our AR app digital twin.

Digital twin skateboards and Timbiliki@s (our Timbila Live Aid character) are unique because they connect your donation to Maputo. Additionally, you can exchange a few selfies with our AR (Augmented Reality) app, which acts as a meeting point between the virtual and real skate through your favourite social network (but don’t forget to use a hashtag to keep us up to date!). Whilst you’re there, why not say hello to the children in Maputo? Hopefully, they will thank you back! Please don’t forget to include our cute character, though, Timbiliki@! (see below my own AR selfie with s/he!).

However, please be aware that the AR app is currently in the Beta phase of its development, so be kind! In the meantime, we want to build something much cooler, so please let us know how you would like to use the app to engage, long-term, with our friends in Maputo Skate (maybe a skate starter wants to show you her new ollie trick!).

Although I am not a skater myself, I spent most of my youth windsurfing in the Mediterranean Sea, so I know how important it is to keep your balance! Though you may think that water is softer than cement, it really depends on how fast you navigate when you jump - and then fall!...

What if you can't donate but still would love to have a Digital Twin?

We understand that there are lots of young people who are very committed to good causes but do not have the money to donate. If this is the case, you can earn your digital twin by playing Timbila Live Aid.

How?

1: Download the game (link available from the 8th of September)
2: Play Mozambiquean music and explore the digital village to collect rhythmic energy.
3: Exchange the energy for a virtual skate, or other things, at the bar (such as a cool warrior shield or a lemonade drink) in order to activate your digital twin!

Alternatively, you can find a proxy to make a donation on your behalf (i.e. a friend or relative). To do this, send them your selfie with Timbilikio and the skate, if you enjoyed the music/culture of the Timbila and the Chopi village.

Maputo Skate Park's SAFETY MEASURES:

Through our many conversations with Francisco at Maputo Skate, we explained the donor's concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic (a concern that we also share). He explained that they are taking very serious measures against this health crisis, not only via social distancing and wearing masks, but by also campaigning about it (as you can see in our video above). He also confirmed that, although they regularly disinfect their premises, equipment, ask all children to wear face masks and wash their hands, they will not be training new starters (for the time being!), in order to avoid physical contact during the initial learning stage. In this sense, they are strictly following government advice, whom (on September 1st) began their second phase of easing COVID-19 measures; cinemas, casinos, theatres, gymnasiums, driving schools and motorised sports have been allowed to reopen starting from September 2nd.

Thank you for your time!

We will keep you up to date with our progress – in the meantime, don't forget to…
