Timber's Surgery to Save Legs

Donation protected

About Timber
Timber is a one year old Malamute Husky with lots of energy. Timber is our son's dog. Timber and Jon love long walks and hiking. They are each others best buds.

Timber suffered an accident this weekend just after one of his beloved hikes in the mountains. It looked like Timbers legs were broken and badly skinned.Timber was such a good boy - obviously hurt but brave.

Vet Treatment
Timber was immediately taken to the nearest animal hospital open late on a weekend. They took him in right away, sedated him and did x-rays. They kept him overnight at no extra charge. However, that cost $570.  They informed Jon that he'd need a specialist for surgery and a CT scan should be done. There is only one vet in our area with a CT scan so Jon was sent there with Timber on Monday morning.

The expected damage was a broken knee joint with tendon and ligament damage and so needing complicated surgery.  The CT revealed multiple fractures in the knee bone which we hope continue to stay in place without the surgery. It is casted but if this doesn't work, the knee joint is unsaveable.

There is so much skin missing from Timber's inner legs that he needs a skin graft (procedure called a skin flap). This is essential to allow the legs to heal and not be lost. This in itself is a major procedure and very expensive.

Escalating Vet Bills
We have been hoping for the best in outcome but the vet charges are mounting continually.
CT scan alone cost $1350,  with sedation, wound cleaning, over night care, and etc. Jon was billed $2500. This was just to confirm what the damage was, and begin preparing the wound for surgery. Overnight hospitalization fees, medication for infection and painkillers, are all additional to a Surgery cost estimate of $3850 (which was orignally estimated at a possible $2500).  When we hear it could possibly be $2500, it is shocking to be told it will be more like $3850. Jon had decided surgery for damaged bones was not an option financially (estimated at $3500 to $5000) but now even the bare minimum treatment of the skin graft is mounting in costs to the same amount.

We expect this to be in the $7000 range when all is done.

Please help us help our son
We love our son and totally understand that he wants to save his dog, especially since he has a great chance at recovery if treated properly. Jon cannot afford this on his own and we can help but we are humbly asking for additional help to lessen the burden of this expense for our son.

Jon has suffered the loss of his first dog and we know he will do whatever necessary to treat Timber to the care he needs to recovery well.

We gratefully accept any financial assistance you are willing to share and will keep you posted on Timber's treatment and recovery.

Thank you so much!
