Bring TimberNook to Oakland Kids!

Hi Friends-
Many of you know I am embarking on a new adventure to bring TimberNook programming to children in the Bay Area. Designed by a pediatric occupational therapist, TimberNook is an outdoor program that fosters healthy development by giving children opportunities for self-directed, complex, creative play outdoors in nature. This kind of play is rapidly disappearing from our children’s lives, but is critically important for their development. Different than a traditional day camp, TimberNook focuses on motor skills, sensory processing, social skills, and cognitive development through therapeutically designed curriculum to stimulate open-ended and imaginative play outdoors. This program combines my love of the outdoors with my work as a pediatric occupational therapist, and I truly feel I have found my calling in life in starting this endeavor!
Friends- your support through social media via Facebook and Twitter has been a great encouragement to me. I want TimberNook East Bay to have a social justice mission right from the start: ALL children should have a right to experience free play in nature during early childhood. There is so much inequity in access to green space and safe outdoor play in the City of Oakland, and I’m especially committed to providing TimberNook programming to children who most need it. I strongly believe starting this program is a worthwhile community investment of our financial resources, so I’m dreaming big! My fundraising goal is to raise $20,000 by April 1st in order to begin offering fully-funded scholarships to children from our first day in operation starting this fall during school holidays.
Please donate generously to help our East Bay children build strong bodies and minds through outdoor play in natural areas. And of course, ask me any questions you may have. I am passionate about this project and enjoy talking about my work on it thus far!
