Tigray Emergency and Disaster Relief Fund

Health Professionals Network for Tigray (HPN4Tigray) is an independent, non for profit organization based mostly in North America made up of volunteer health professionals who are committed to improving the health of Tigrayans in Ethiopia and beyond.

On November 4, 2020, the Ethiopian federal government engaged in an armed conflict against the Tigray regional government and as a result, civilians are bearing the cost of war. This war has created a devastating humanitarian crisis for more than 6 million people in the Tigray region. The people of Tigray are without access to basic needs of security, food, water, shelter and medicine. The entire region has been in darkness and without electricity or communication services and over 2 million Tigrayans are internally displaced without access to humanitarian aid. Right now, there are over 60,000 refugees who have fled the violence in Ethiopia to neighboring Sudan.

At this time of dire need, we are focused on supporting the people who are disproportionately impacted; the people in Tigray and those seeking refuge.  HPN is working to support unmet basic needs such as adequate shelter, clean water, nutritional care and medical supplies. HPN4T is partnering with medical personnel on the ground and NGO's-such as doctors without borders. This trauma is all too familiar to many of the HPN members who have experienced these types atrocities in the past. Many of our members have families who are directly impacted in Tigray and are refuges in neighboring counties. As individuals and health professionals, we have an obligation to act during this dire humanitarian crisis of war. We vow to support victims of violence, illness and despair. 

We plan to deliver these funds through partnership with NGO’s and Tigray community organizations in Sudan who are currently working to support refugees. In addition, we have American volunteers willing to travel to Sudan with materials like sanitation supplies and other necessities.
