Tiger is a seven-year old Corgi/Chihuahua-mix dog who suffered a slipped disc in the thoracolumbar spine, and needed an extensive surgical procedure called a Hemilaminectomy.
His original owners put him through surgery, but when they learned Tiger was still crippled after nine days, they no longer wanted him. Tiger's surgeon had specifically informed them that Tiger needed months to recover from surgery, even built Tiger a temporary wheelchair using PVC piping, but they wanted him immediately euthanized (sutures intact and all!). They weren't happy that Tiger was not able to urinate/defecate on his own. And they claimed they had no time to deal with a handicapped dog, especially with a newborn on the way.
Feeling sad for Tiger, the vet hospital immediately contacted The Fuzzy Pet Foundation - (TFPF) for help. They knew TFPF was Tiger's only chance at survival, and they believed TFPF would be able to care for him and provide him with a brighter future.TIGER'S PROGNOSIS:
Tiger went into the Hemilaminectomy procedure with a guarded prognosis. A pinch test revealed that he did not have much deep pain sensation in his hind. The surgeon says that Tiger may or may not be able to walk again, only time will tell. But most importantly, Tiger is not in any more pain, and he is a very happy boy. And he is being surrounded by people who love and care for him very, very much!
We are currently raising critical funds for Tiger's needs. He will need a customized wheelchair and physical therapy. We will be taking him in for electroacupuncture treatments. And we must rely on medical boarding where he can be fully monitored in the absence of our foster volunteers.
If you can donate towards Tiger's care, we would greatly appreciate your support. Tiger currently gets round-the-clock care (expressing his bladder for urination, cleaning his private areas, and constantly moving him around so he doesn't develop bed sores). This is no easy feat! It will also take us some time to find him the right home -- because, as you may all know, it's always challenging to place special-needs animals.
