Early January 2019, my sister Emily was diagnosed with stage II thyroid cancer. On the 21st of February she will be having a full thyroidectomy, including many surrounding lymph nodes being removed from her upper neck as well.  Following the surgery Emily will be undergoing a few sessions of radiation therapy to help ensure there is no chance of a relapse.

Preparation for surgery and taking care of her health has meant taking a lot of sick time. Being a self-employed co-owner of her own business has meant an abrupt stop to her income. The medical bills are starting to come in, and this is just the beginning of it. Insurance does help a bit, but no where near enough. Being a single mother of two young ones, the financial implications of missing more work from time spent recovering are daunting to say the least. Not to mention any unforeseen costs that may arise from this situation.

  The goal I am setting is $5000, enough to help alleviate *some* of this financial stress. Allowing Emily to spend her energy and time healing and getting better.

 As of the time of this posting, Em is due to go into surgery tomorrow (2/21/19). I humbly ask that if you are able to give, every little bit will help. And if you cannot give monetarily, send good thoughts and wishes her way.
