Thriving Back On Country

Donation protected
Marrukakilikan - one who is in a state of wellbeing, happiness, or one who is patient if in adversity. In my mother’s language, Gringai of the hunter valley.

After 150 years of our families living in towns and cities, our family of 8 are taking the plunge and moving back to the bush permanently.  Western food and lifestyle are killing us quicker than people realise. Both me n my kids father and have no parents, grandparents and alot of our younger ones are now terminally ill and or so many dying prematurely. Things need to change, especially for us who were raised in the cities with lil to know regular bush food.

Current research clearly shows living on country, eating a traditional diet and practising your culture improves wellbeing (https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/4a3f/b99d46b7eb6c79498bc2e78f2b779694c32f.pdf)

Losing both parents mean the kids not only have no grandparents but it also means for me, with a lack of support i really have to look after myself and find a better way for my kids. So they too dont become another statistic as many of our family have before us, passing prematurely from totally avoidable causes.

Coming from Redfern, inner city Sydney and surviving all sorts of adversity ourselves, we hope by creating videos of our journey we’ll show other city dwelling mob that its still possible to go back to the old ways.  If I can do it anyone can.

We would like to teach our children how to live a long happy life, as free of the worries of the western world as possible. To create a space where we can revive our old ways n thrive again as we did before the boats came. By 2022 we hope to set up bush school where they learn to grow, hunt n heal as well as the basics in bushcrafts.

After a long slog getting here we are ready to build the life our kids deserve, on country with fresh food gardens and away from the pressures of city life.  We have started a facebook group to share our journey every step of the way and have events set up, leading up to the big build and reveal.

We have a kit home ready to build after clearing kilometres of road and after 10 years of trial and errors. We would love to invite like minded people to come camp with us and work together to get the house and gardens up.  In exchange we will provide food and somewhere to camp for those who come for the 5 days and a cultural tour of the island to say thank you.

After clearing kilometres of road and a pad to build, we are ready to proceed but are dead in the water, so we are calling on those who will join us achieve this dream.  All we need is backers and support to make this dream a reality by the end of the year.
