Hi, my name is Sharon Love, founder of OUTstandinglives.org . By the time I was 15, I'd been bullied so badly that I was selectively mute. At school, I earned the reputation as "the kid who can't even talk".

One person saved my life. My American cousin Ted. Ted came to visit my family and I'll never forget his face as he listened to me speak. He was nodding thoughtfully, thinking deeply about my words, before he responded with kindness. This was NOT how I was used to being treated by teen boys, especially not by my bully. Quite the opposite. At that moment, an astonishing life-changing new idea flashed through my mind.

"He's listening to me like I'm a human being!!! Wait! maybe I AM a human being!"

Over time, I began to speak again. I earned my Master's in Psychology at University of Toronto and dedicated my life to inspiring kindness.

Years later, when we were both in our 20s, I Ted came out to his family as "not straight". After that he took his own life.

I was so devastated that I donated thousands of hours to save lives of bullied LGBTQ youth. In 2010, my work inspired over 2,000,000 people to support LGBTQ human rights and marriage equality on Facebook. By 2015, we won marriage equality across North America.

I was obsessed. I was grieving. I donated so much time that I was homeless. I'm not homeless any more. Now I share my home with LGBTQ youth who fled homophobic homes, and I give them free mentoring and support when I can. I'd love to do this work full-time, and we need your help. In fact, I'd love to create more safe homes for LGBTQ youth. I get requests all the time.

Many LGBTQ youth face relentless bullying, abuse and rejection at home, at work, at school. Many hear vicious hateful lies from greedy, homophobic religious leaders who only care about money and power, not about love. It can be torture.

Some of them are kicked out by their own parents and end up homeless, desperately trying survive. Even though discrmination is illegal in many countries, many LGBTQ youth get harassed and/or fired just for being themselves.

According to research, the leading cause of death among LGBT youth is suicide. Depression is an epidemic in the LGBT community. LGBTQ youth are four times more likely to end their lives than their straight peers.

Imagine a youth who googles how to suicide. With the help of your clicks, instead they find this video. They are surrounded by love acceptance from around the world, and they decide to call a crisis line. With the help of your clicks, they choose to live.

Hi. My name is Sharon Love, and I’m known as the former mute girl who inspired millions. I grew up on the Trauma Titanic. By the time I was in high school, I was near drowning in the icy seas of shame. In fact, I was so painfully shy, I earned the reputation as the “kid who can’t even talk”. So I made it my mission to discover the secrets of the world’s greatest speakers and leaders. How did they overcome trauma and bullying? How did they inspire kindness? How did they inspire peace? I spent decades in a tireless quest, and eventually I discovered four secrets that they shared, like four super powers. Inner peace is the first of those four secrets. I call it your purple superhero cape.

When I discovered how to create inner peace, I escaped the Titanic Trauma Trap and starting finding myself on a beach of bliss. In this space, I gave inspiring talks to over 2,000 people in Spanish, French and English, and I inspired over 2,000,000 people to support human rights on Facebook in just over two weeks.

I wrote the lyrics to this song after seeing a music video that featured the line "I know you want it." That video had over 1,000,000,000 views and that line taught people to assume sexual consent instead of asking. It showed submissive young women in almost no clothes prancing around powerful men in suits. The men were staring arrogantly at the camera. I saw red. So often, the media sexualizes male supremacy and sexual assault. Unfortunately, many people follow the examples they see in the media.

I produced this song to show people sexy, fun, vivid examples of how to ASK for sexual consent ("Want to dance with me? ...Can I kiss your lips?... You can touch my hips... Want to come to my place? Want to come inside?"... etc.) instead of assuming sexual consent.

Hi! My name is Sharon Love, M.Ed. (Psychology). My cousin Ted came out to his family and took his own life. I was devastated. Now, I live in a home I love where I house and mentor LGBT youth who have been abused by homophobic parents.

According to research, when an LGBT youth is accepted by family, friends, and local laws, they are much less likely to take their lives. Youth who reported high levels of acceptance from any adult had nearly 40% lower odds of a past-year suicide attempt compared with LGBTQ peers with little to no acceptance. Youth with high levels of acceptance from any peer also had significantly lower odds of reporting a past-year suicide attempt When a transgender youth is supported by their parents, they are 93% less likely to attempt suicide (a 14-fold difference).[34]

Yes! Someone you love is LGBTQ.

According to research, LGBTQ people are over 56% of the population. Yes, someone you love is lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans and/or queer, even if they haven’t told you yet. Many LGBTQ people hide their true identities “in the closet” for safety reasons. The Kinsey Report found that over 56% of people feel attracted to other people of the same sex at least some of the time. As well, many people are trans, gender free or gender fluid.

Here’s why four words can save lives...

My cousin came out to his father, and did not get a very positive response. Unfortunately, he took his own life.

This happens so often, it’s like an epidemic. Due to homophobic discrimination, shaming, homelessness and violence, suicide is 4-5 times higher amongst LGBTQ2S (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer and Two-Spirit) youth. It is the leading cause of death in the community. Research shows that LGBTQ2S youth with accepting parents are 47% more likely to survive.

Meanwhile, countless LGBT seniors and youth are living in unsafe conditions where they have to try to hide their identities and/or relationships just to be safe.

Save lives simply by saying, “I like LGBTQ people.” Repeat it often. If you are talking to your kids or other people you love, you may save lives by saying, “I love LGBTQ people.” Say it often say it to many people. Please share this online, too.

Enjoy the true story of Sharon Love, M.Ed. (Psychology), the former mute girl who inspired millions...

When she was small, the big neighbourhood bully chose Love as his favourite target. He tortured her regularly for years. When she asked adults for help, they only made things worse. Like so many bullied kids, Love blamed herself. She thought she wasn’t good enough.

By high school, she was so painfully shy that she barely ever said a word. Her English teacher put her in a group with the popular girl to give a presentation.

“Sharon!?! I’m supposed to do a presentation with Sharon!?! That kid can’t even talk!” Yelled the popular girl. Love felt her face get hot as everyone stared at her.

That day, Love began a quest to overcome her shyness and lean to speak. She began researching secrets of the world’s greatest speakers. Later, she earned a Master’s degree in Psychology at University of Toronto. After she graduate, she worked as a mental health counsellor in private practice for a number of years, often giving away free counseling to save lives of youth, women and LGBT people in crisis.

She founded OUTstandingLives.org years ago to save lives after her cousin Ted came out to his family as “not straight”, and took his own life. So far, it has been a labour of love. In her grief, she funded the movement out of her own pocket and lived in poverty for years. A number of her close relatives who were religious rejected and ostracized her for supporting the LGBT community.

As an empathetic person, she once refused to date a narcissist. Enraged, the narcissist spread vicious false rumours about her to the leaders of groups with over 9,000 members in her local community. Dozens of total strangers believed the lies, spread the rumours, kicked her out of online groups, and sent her cyberbullying messages online. The social abuse and ostracism continued for over ten years, and badly damaged her career and friendships.

By this time, she had already started working as a mental health counsellor. When she called helplines, she found that about 60% of counsellors don’t know how to show empathy or make a difference. That gave her the idea to offer Life SAVERS Mental Health Mentoring Certification.

After years of research, Love discovered 6 Secrets of the World’s Greatest Speakers. She used the secrets she discovered from her research to overcome near-mute shyness, work as a teacher, professor and professional speaker, give live talks to a total of over 2,000 people in English, French and Spanish, and save lives by working as a mental health counsellor.

In 2010, she started a Facebook group called “I bet we can Find 1,000,000 People who Support Same-Sex Marriage “. The group attracted over 2,000,000 people in just over two weeks. Love and support for the LGBTQ community poured in from around the world. At one point, every time you clicked refresh, 10,000 more people joined!

Working from her tiny basement apartment in Ontario, Love collected over 60,000 petition signatures for marriage equality, more than a multi-million dollars charity for the same cause. Within five years, the LGBT-friendly community won same-sex marriage equality across North America.

The group also saved countless lives of bullied LGBT youth, and Love led a number of successful suicide interventions that saved lives.

The epicenter of hate is patriarchal religion. Many patriarchal religious leaders, hungry for money and power over others, often preach hate and violence towards the LGBTQ2S community. Why do religions of "love" preach hate towards LGBTQ2S people? Around 325 AD, Emperor Constantine "The Great" murdered his son, murdered his wife, funded the first bibles and churches. He stated his reason in three words that changed the world:

"Conquer with THIS. " Constantine was a war leader and he used his version of Christianity as a psychological weapon of war. People who hate themselves are easier to manipulate, control and send off to die in war. They are also easier to manipulate into giving money and time, and into having children who also give money to the church.

Some patriarchal religious leaders today still use hate to build their incomes. In a recent survey, over 90% of people reported that Christianity taught them self-hate, shame and guilt. Luckily, there are also religious leaders who are actually preaching love and acceptance to all people. We need more people like them.
