Three's Company

In the Jewish faith Bar Mitzvah, a special birthday party for 13-year-old boys, marks a coming-of-age where by the boy crosses the threshold into manhood  becoming accountable for his actions with a responsibility to abide laws, traditions, ethics and to engage in his community. Though he is still a dependent, remaining a child in many ways, his shift in ideology opens the doors to independence.


I just turned 14 three days ago, and as the man of the house who’s not quite old enough to work yet, i’ve wracked my brain for ways to help alleviate the stress and burden from my two lady loves…


SO, here it is:

After working at Northwestern University for 22 years,just shy of pension eligibility, my mom was left off. A true hero she is to not only withstand such a pride-busting blow, but also carry on with much grace and poise; retaining said strength not only for herself, but for all whom consider her a role model - a list including more than just those of us who call her “Mom”.


That was about a year and a half ago. And despite not having a source of income, we’ve been maintained well enough.


As a result of the untimely layoff, we had to move to Indianapolis, Indiana with my oldest sister because our luxurious condo, Fiat and lifestyle to which we’d become accustomed has become too fiscally taxing.


I’ve watched my mom, the captain of our ship, pray for still water amid a raging sea of debt.

She took a leap of faith for this move: unfamiliar waters and no job prospects. Attempting to find housing comfortable to fit all three of us, she filled out countless renter’s applications, but the no job thing got us denied each time. Yet, my mom still gets up everyday and spends hours at the library, submitting job applications,attending work-related workshops and getting resume help.


My sister,28, is working two factory jobs while maintaining both her full-time student status and her 3.8 GPA - with a whopping 5-course load this semester.


On our end, all hands are on deck, but right now our best efforts just don’t suffice. We are all set to move into a new duplex - unfortunately, it won’t be ready for us until October 1st. During this time, we humbly ask for a little assistance getting over this hump. Your generous donation, no matter the amount, will ensure the three of us have the basic necessities in the coming weeks.
