Three VERY important causes

Donation protected

As many of you know, I'm climbing Kilimanjaro later this month, both as a challenge and as an opportunity to raise money for causes close to my heart. I have been training hard, and hope to reach the top, but I'm well aware of my own health challenges, and am not going to risk anything that will prevent me getting back safe to my family.

Whatever the outcome, I hope that I can raise both awareness and funds for these three very worthwhile causes. I know I can’t change the world with my donations alone, but I do know that whatever you give will be more appreciated than you could imagine.

Thanks in advance, and let's hope the altitude doesn’t get to me and I make it to the top.

ONE
As many of you know, I had most of my pituitary gland removed in a series of surgeries in my 20s, and so I’m reliant on hydrocortisone to live. When I have a low-cortisone episode, I need an emergency injection ASAP. Unfortunately, as my condition is rare, drug companies don't believe it cost effective to make this injection in the form of an epi pen (what people with severe nut allergies typically carry), making it easy and quick to administer. Instead, the only option is a powder, which is complicated and impractical in a crisis. I know from experience that a situation can deteriorate so fast, preparing an injection solution is near-impossible. There was a pre-mixed solution which was easier, but manufacturers have stopped making this.

This is not an easily packaged or sexy fundraising cause, but as a mother-of-two, an easy-to-use emergency injection is crucial to my day-to-day safety and independence. And I’m not alone - this affects many other patients with pituitary disorders.
It seems crazy to me that there is no reason the drug can not be made into a fast pen injection, aside from the fact that it will not make the drug companies any profit. The funds raised would contribute to a campaign pressuring drug companies to change their approach and manufacture a hydrocortisone epi pen.

TWO
An old friend has been diagnosed with a rare and complex cancer, Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (ACC). Despite immediate surgery to remove her right lung, the cancer spread, and there is no known cure. She is a wife, a mother-of-one and a twin and only 33 years old. Whatever we can do to fund research that might give her more time is worth every penny.

THREE
Another friend, Samantha Maynard, was working at a festival in Croatia when she had an accident which put her in intensive care. She's had to have surgery and has a very long road to recovery ahead of her. Her family are with her, but they need help. I’m joining her friends in raising funds for her medical bills, and to contribute to the cost of accommodation for her family, who have had to leave their lives and jobs in Spain to be with her. Ultimately, she’ll need to be transported by air ambulance back to her home in Amsterdam, which will cost something in the region of £25,000. Any support I can give them would mean the world to them.
