Thor’s Spinal Surgery Fund

Donation protected
Thor is a 4 year old Beabull (beagle/French bulldog mix) and he is the best boy in the land! He has a bit of OCD, he’s scared of the car, he has a dislocated knee, and he is still the happiest little pup. He loves people more than other dogs and will sit with you for 10 hours if you just touch him.

Thor and his sister were playing at daycare when he herniated a disc in the mid section of his back just simply by playing. When my husband and I picked him up (before we knew something was wrong), he seemed  tired and that was all. He then started moving oddly, off balance, and began to drag his legs. When we noticed his legs were becoming imobile, we rushed to the emergency room where we understood what was really wrong. His disc was bulging and pushing into his spine so that he was paralyzed on his bottom half but he still has feelings in his toes which is a good sign.  Early this morning (10/15) we watched the nice doctor wheel him away for an MRI and planned spinal surgery at noon. Both of us were hysterically crying at the thought he might not be able to walk again.

The doctors weren’t able to do anything without a payment upfront, and we humbly needed to take a loan for the cost of his treatment. The estimated cost is around $8,000 but understand that is far to steep to ask for help with, so we were hoping for help from Thor’s family and friends to cover a quarter of the cost of treatment.

When I last spoke to the neurosurgeon, she said he was out of surgery and still has feeling in his toes so things are looking good. She removed the disc, and some blood clots in the L11-L13 section of his mid back on the right side. We are waiting for him to move his tail and back legs to make sure he will be able to walk again. My husband and I are unable to see him until he is ready to leave the hospital.

Even if you are unable to help, but had time to read Thor’s story, please keep in mind that this type of issue is more common in his breed as well as other short long bodied dogs. If you have one of these breeds and haven’t ran into this issue, please consider yourself lucky and consider saving potentially for this type of issue in the future.

Thanks for reading,
Team Thor
