What was supposed to be the start of a happy new year for the Thomsen family instead became a life-changing tragedy. In the early hours of January 2, Karla (Manka) Thomsen of Monona, WI, woke to find that her husband of 10 years, Troy, had unexpectedly passed away during the night due to an apparent heart attack. He was just 43 years old.
Troy Thomsen was a dear friend and family member to all of us who knew him, and a loving husband, father and electrician who took good care of his family. It is unbearable enough just knowing that he is no longer here with us and how much he will be missed, especially by Karla and their 8-year-old twins, Brody and Harlowe. There is added tragedy in knowing of the financial challenges the family faces with Troy’s sudden passing and minimal life insurance to ease the burden. We are reaching out to ask you for a helping hand at this difficult time.
As many of you know, Karla is a loving mom who is passionate about caring for others, working full-time as a social worker. Her job is valuable and meaningful, and she makes a tremendous difference in so many lives. However, on her income alone, it will not be possible to give the twins all of the opportunities that she and Troy dreamed for them in the years to come. Now, it is our turn to help make a difference in the Thomsen family’s lives.
From school field trips to extracurricular activities to higher education, this fund will be used to keep the doors open to valuable life experiences for Brody and Harlowe. They have a long road ahead. But Troy would have wanted his children to live life to the fullest – pursuing their education, and just as importantly, pursuing their talents and passions. Whether they find happiness through sports, music, theater, camps or any of a number of other activities, we want them to have the means to continue on a path of fulfillment and ultimately achieve the life they were each meant to live. They can still do this with our help.
