Puerto Rico Relief Trip w/ Supplies

Donation protected
Puerto Rico desperately needs our help. I am going to PR for 3 weeks and taking with me medical supplies, communication gear, tools and a very unique skill set.

My goal is to help people build systems from local resources and hurricane debris to survive the coming months until things return to normal. I will be sharing my skills and knowledge so people can get thru this storm and be better prepared for the next.

I have years of special event organization skills at the national and state level, having organized events and rallies for 6 presidential candidates, Earth Day and several state campaigns.   I was communication coordinator for a large Chicago, Level 1 trauma  hospital.  On a more personal level, I have expertise that will directly help people in repurposing common items and building things to thrive when water, fuel and electricity is scarce or non-existent. I blacksmith, weld, plumb, wood work, and have a excellent knowledge of electronics repair and chemistry. I am a licensed ham radio operator and CERT trained by the Los Angeles Fire Department. I’ve built many off-the-grid solar powered hydroponic vegetable gardens. Until I am on the ground, I do not know which of my skills and resources will be needed most. I am planning for everything I can think of.

There are many ways to create enough electricity and clean water to survive that are free, simple and can be made with hurricane debris and local resources  that can save lives and give people a sense of dignity and self sufficiency.

People are getting sick from unclean water. Cholera is a growing risk. Anyone can have safe water with common items and a little know how. For example, regular table salt, a flashlight battery and a pencil can make bleach to disinfect gallons and gallons of water.

Most of the island is cut off from communications. As a licensed ham radio operator, my mobile radio can send messages from cut off areas to the authorities and help coordinate aid. I am bring as many walkie-talkie radios as I can afford.  They can be charged off-the-grid and will help with this crisis and the next.

With my backpacking gear, I can be nimble and go where ever the need is without being an additional burden. My satellite communicator will let me communicate from anywhere, including updating social media. I will be posting conditions on the ground, progress being made and stories of people I meet. I also will use it to let people check-in with loved-ones around the world.

I am asking for help to buy the equipment and supplies that I will be bringing.

I am leaving Monday, October 23. So please donate now.
