Thomas Harris-The Drum Man

Donation protected
Thomas Harris is a homeless man who has been living on a bench facing 239 Ocean Ave in Brooklyn for quite sometime now. He lost his legs when he got struck by a subway train. Many people know him as the Drum Man. He always sells beautiful authentic african drums that he creates himself near the drum circle in Prospect Park. In the cold, the drums serve as a shield to keep him warm. On the night of 1/4/2017, 11 police officers forcefully grabbed him as he then fell on the ground injuring his reconstrusted hip.

He was  then taken to Kings County Hospital. Altough police confiscated his drums, most of his personal belongings were trashed by sanitation. We managed to save his wheel chair.  "Homeless people deserve to be treated with dignity like all New Yorkers, and the city acknowledged that it had no right to treat their few possession like garbage" NYCLU Executive Director Donna Lieberman said. We need to remind the city and NYPD that everyone has a right to be treated with equal dignity and that homelessness is NOT A CRIME. We ask you to contribute to his fund to help this man get himself back on track with his life.

Who am I: My name is Kasia Bednarska. I live at 40 Lincoln Rd and Ocean Ave in Brooklyn next to where Mr. Thomas Harry was picked up by the police. I kept his wheelchair and carried it to him with the Daily News reporter to the Kings County Hospital.  (I am in the picture in the article holding the wheelchair - http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/brooklyn/exclusive-nypd-throws-one-legged-homeless-man-crutches-article-1.2936577)
I have known Mr. Harris for many years from when he used to stay at Central Park. I communicate with him via phone and update him with the campaign updates. The money will be spent to cover for his storage fee and to help him with renting room. The remaining money will be given to him for his day-to-day needs such as transportation, food, hygene products etc.
Once the camaping is over, we are planning to meet with him in person and give him the 100% of the collections. This will be video documented and shared with all of the donors here on goFundme page.
