Hey everyone,

I am not someone who usually does this, but I have to come realize that it’s actually ok to ask for help every now and then because we are all only human. I just hate seeming weak and that I can’t actually take care of my family.  Backstory - I have been extremely sick since June of last year starting with being anemic, pneumonia, fluid in my lungs, fluid around my heart, needing oxygen 24/7, enlarged spleen, possible cancer (which they have now ruled out), and so much chest pain.  I have had to miss a lot of work, which as a teacher, really lets my kids and my boss/school down. I really hate disappointing my kids and school because they mean the world to me. I love my job with an absolute passion and what we stand for as a school. I could honestly go on forever. I have also had to uproot my family’s lives and have them travel back and forth to FL so many times. I hate being that person who people fuss over.  Lately, I have been in some extremely dark places mentally, and it has been hard to climb out of, but the support of my great spouse and friends/family, has kept me afloat through all this. Going through these kinds of things, you seriously figure out exactly who your friends/family really are. Anyway, the point of this is to say that I am finally at Mayo Clinic and they are actually figuring out what’s wrong after 7 months.
  However, I am missing a lot of work again, and I’ve already used up my PTO, so I haven’t gotten paid for any missed time in a long time. Mayo Clinic isn’t cheap, even with insurance, the drive, and food/necessities.  We could use the money to go towards so many things. People keep asking what they can do to help, and this is it. We have already tapped into our savings so much, and I already sold my side business (Pop Life ). You don’t get as much as you would think when selling a lot to a reseller, and with not working/getting paid I just don’t know anymore. I am tired of trying to figure it all out and stressing/worrying Rachel and myself so much. Yes, Rachel helps figure it all out too, but she is so overwhelmed trying to take care of me that it’s taking such a toll on her. I hate it.  We have figured out that I have a disease with my liver, spleen, and lungs. They are trying to work on a plan that doesn’t involve removing my spleen. They found some other problems now with my kidneys and such, so we are doing more testing and will see how that goes.  All that being said, if you can help out, even in the slightest, we would greatly appreciate it and it would go far.
