One tough Cookie...

Hi, I would like to introduce you to “COOKIE” Claire McGuinness Conlon. Yes Cookie has had that nickname since she was a young girl, her mother lovingly called her “my sugar cookie”. Cookie is known and loved by many. She is a mother of two military sons who proudly serve their Country and are on active duty in the U.S Army. We know her as a mother, mother in law, a grandmother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, and a loving and lifelong friend.

Recently left Long Island to be closer to her son and granddaughters, she is currently living with her son, Ryan and daughter in law, Vicky with their girls near Fayettville N.C.  Enjoying family and her new home she was called back up to New York after her mother fell and broke her neck. While in Hampton Bays helping her sister, Jennifer care for their mother their brother Peter McGuinness died suddenly. Claire developed symptoms of a severe sinus infection and inflamed throat. After a few rounds of antibiotics her ailments were not going away and it was obvious it was more than an infection. Upon returning to her home in North Carolina she saw an ENT who discovered the tumor and was given “that” devastating news. We found out about a month ago that she has stage 4 throat cancer. It has spread to her lymph nodes, sinuses and palate. It has also affected her speech. Where it has spread means surgery is out. She has begun week 3 of 7 weeks of treatment today. She has chemo once a week and radiation daily. She is staying positive and is ready to fight but I know as we get further along in all this it will take its toll and we need all the love and support possible.

Since her daily treatments are an hour away from her home, her sister Jennifer Mason and her son, Teo are heading down from New York, leaving her husband and mother behind to help Cookie get to her to her daily treatments for the next four weeks. They will be renting two hotel rooms close to Chapel Hill, UNC Medical Center. Her sister Jennifer will be depending upon help from great friends in their home town of Hampton Bays to be able to leave behind their mother, Claire Mason who is 88 years young and newly retired from the Town of Southampton Justice Courts.

We all ask, what can we do?  Cards, messages, Facebook posts, but you always feel you want to do more which is why we set up this go fund me page. If we all come together and donate something it will help with Cookie and her families s stress over the financial and medical burden as far as living expenses, food, transportation fees and care for her needs after this intense treatment.

Look within ourselves and reflect on our own blessings and it is times like this that we need prayers for healing and financial help to ease the burden.
