<div>What’s happening?
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>One of the UK’s LARGEST Battery Storage plant is to be built in Thirsk
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>NatPower wants to build one of the UK’s largest Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) on productive farmland just outside of Thirsk.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The 1-Gigawatt plant will host 888 Lithium-ion batteries, and will be seen for miles around due to its location near the famous North York Moors and the popular Sutton Bank, known as “the finest view in England”. Its location on a hillside will ensure that it can be seen for miles around.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Local action group Thirsk Against Battery Storage (TABS) has serious concerns about the suitability of the site, on location, safety, and environmental grounds. We are working to ensure that this plant is not built in this area, but created on brownfield land instead.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The impact:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<ul>
<li>A development of this size will have a serious impact on the visual presentation of this currently beautiful countryside.
</li>
<li>The views from Sutton Bank (The finest view in England) will be destroyed forever.
</li>
<li>High yielding agricultural land will be lost forever.
</li>
<li>This could be the start of further industrialisation to this area.
</li>
<li>The long term safety and fire risk of this type of development
</li>
<li>The long term impact on nature and the environment
</li>
<li>Issues around noise and light pollution
</li>
</ul>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>What are we doing?
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>An action group has recently been formed and our plan is to STOP this from happening.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Why?
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Because we strongly believe that this is the wrong location for this type of infrastructure, for the above reasons.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Why we need funding?
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We need to get a fund together to pay for a professional team to assist our action group.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This is our future, this is the loss of local amenities at the expense of all residents in the Thirsk and wider area to benefit a Luxembourg based investment company.
