The Stephen Wonge Memorial Scholarship

The Stephen Wonge Memorial Fund was established in memory of a great son, brother and friend Stephen Bink Wonge. Stephen was a magnificent athlete and inspiring mentor. There was nothing more important to him then his family and friends, which rang through with his saying "Fam or Nothing." The fund provides scholarship assistance to at least 1 graduating senior each year. The recipients would be an athlete that demonstrates the same understanding Stephen had on the importance of family and mentoring.
On June 6, 2013, The Stephen Wonge Memorial Fund was able to award two Elmont Memorial Seniors with $1000 checks each. An additional honorable mention was given to a third Senior who received a check for $300. All the students wrote excellent essays and displayed the same altruistic nature as Stephen. This wouldn't have happened without the help of contributions from several family members, Stephen's fellow colleagues at the Harlem Children's Zone and PressPlay Socialite, LLC.
On June 5, 2014, The Stephen Wonge Memorial Fund was able to award a Elmont Memorial Senior with a $1000 check. She wrote an excellent essay on mentoring and the role it has played in her life. We were also able to extend a honorable mention to another Elmont Memorial Senior who received a check for $400. His essay on the importance of family reminded us of Stephen.
On June 4, 2015, The Stephen Wonge Memorial Fund was able to award a Elmont Memorial Senior with a $1000 check. She wrote a marvelous essay on family, mentoring and the contributions she has made towards the Elmont community. All things that we felt embodied the spirit of Stephen. We were also able to extend a honorable mention to another Elmont Memorial Senior who received a check for $500.
On June 2, 2016,The Stephen Wonge Memorial Fund will be awarding two more Elmont Memorial Senior(s) with awards totalling over $1000.
On August 3, 2013 and August 2, 2014 many of Stephen's friends and family gathered together for our First & Second Fam Days. There was food, games, and lots of laughs as we gathered together to celebrate the life of Stephen and raise money towards the Scholarship Fund. Although we did have another gathering in 2015, we continued to receive contributions from family and friends to continue on our Scholarship Fund. We hope to be able to continously raise money to award two more graduating seniors for next year and the years to follow.
Please help us by donating whatever you can. All of the proceeds will go directly to assisting a graduate of Elmont Memorial High School with their college expenses.
