They Want A Child

The community of Sderot, a development town in Israel less than a mile from the Gaza border has unfortunately been the victim of a multi year terror war.  This terror has been defined mainly by the more than 10,000 rockets indiscriminately fired at the residents by HAMAS terrorists.  In addition tunnels dug beneath the community have been uncovered which were designed to ferry arms and explosives to kill, maim and destroy the Jewish residents.

Despite the ever present danger, the people have remained strong and committed to their community. Homes continue to be built, schools are at capacity and industry has joined in the struggle to combat terrorism.
At the center of this struggle is the Hesder Yeshiva of Sderot.  Under the dynamic leadership of Rabbi Duv Fendel, the yeshiva sees itself not only as a beacon of learning, but also an istitution dedicated to the welfare of its students and its community.  

One young couple determined to stay in the Sderot community faces a daunting challenge.  They want to have children, but due to diabetes exacerbated by the years of dealing with terror have made it impossible for the wife to hold a child during pregnancy.  Their solution is a surrogate mother, and the Yeshiva has decided to take on this responsibility to fund the process.  The total cost for this process and procedure is 300,000 NIS.  In US Dollars that is approximately $85,000.   The couple is ready, the surrogate mother is ready, the hospital is ready.  All we need is you.

This is how the costs break down:

200,000 shekel payment to surrogate mother
30,000 shekel to the company- fee for services
5000 shekel for insurances- health, life, medical
10,000 shekel- legal fees for surrogate mother
5000 shekel for miscellaneous expenses for surrogate mother- clothing, transportation, cleaning woman
30,000 shekel - pregnancy tests
5000 shekel- for C-Section
10,000 shekel compesation for damages
5000 shekel- unforeseen expenses

I, Chaim Leibtag, (Queens,NY ) serve as a volunteer for American Friends of Sderot.  The American Friends works closely with Rabbi Fendel, The Rosh Yeshiva (Dean) (In Sderot, Israel) to help with community and social matters.  All funds raised will be used to help pay for the medical procedures as outlined above.
