About The Video Games
By: Jared Tyrel Pixler and David Evan Stolworthy

Theatre culture meets geek culture in THE VIDEO GAMES! We have been invited to perform in the NYC FRINGE FESTIVAL 2016 and need your help to get there!

THE VIDEO GAMES is a piece of theatre that has never been executed before. It’s unique script takes contemporary theatre play structure and turns it on its head. It’s goes beyond audience-interactive and immersive experiences and allows the audience to direct the show. The play is written in such a way that even the smallest voice or the tiniest player can influence the course of the Games in a big way. It bridges the gap between the traditional theatre-goer (who may want to simply watch the play) and the avant-garde theatre-goer (who wants a completely immersive performance). Furthermore, it expands the appeal of live performances to audiences who wouldn’t normally consider going to see a play; crossing from theater culture to geek culture.

Not unlike a Broadway production where swings learn many parts, the show demands each actor to be proficient in multiple tracks for a single role and be able to change it at the drop of a coin. The play is so fast-paced and technical that it requires truly versatile talents to compliment the complexity of the script. To be selected to perform at the New York International Fringe Festival would be not only the greatest honor, but also an incredible privilege. So just what are THE VIDEO GAMES? Princess Zelda, the Queen of The Console, is celebrating the 64th Annual Video Games and needs the audience’s assistance to ensure that this year’s Games are bigger, badder, and bloodier than the year before! It’s a different show every night as iconic pixelated heroes and villains, such as Donkey Kong, Lara Croft, the Master Chief, and more, compete to win the coveted title of Player One. THE VIDEO GAMES had a successful run at The Hollywood Fringe Festival 2015 and walked away with two awards (The Producer’s Choice Encore Award for Theatre Production; Robot Teammate + the Accidental Party’s Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda Award for Theatre Excellence and Improvisation). The show then continued for four months at The Actor’s Company in Hollywood. THE VIDEO GAMES received the attention from several comic conventions in Southern California; most notably Stan Lee’s Comikaze 2015, one of the most diverse and celebrated geek and pop culture events in the United States.

Seeing something done on screen is one thing. Doing it live? Game over.

The Impact
"One of my most cherished childhood memories was playing Banjo-Kazooie and Mario Kart with my dad in the basement. My most cherished possession is a Pokemon Yellow Version that my younger brother saved up his quarters and dimes to buy me for my tenth birthday. When I felt lonely, I would turn on Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and play for hours; solving dungeons and saving the world from Ganondorf's evil clutches. Video games hold a special place in my heart. With the production that we have, it warms my heart and makes me relive all of those moments that I hold near and dear.

And I know that I'm not alone.

After each show, we've had people hug us, thanking us for helping them relive their childhoods again. We've had children tell us that we have inspired them to explore new and exciting games and stories. We've had adults congratulate us on capturing the excitement and joy that they felt all those years ago.

Video games touch people's lives in more ways than one. We want to share that with you."

Risks & Challenges

"We've been working on this production for over a year and have discovered many things about the project, ourselves, and others. Our production is something that has never been done before; partnering stage combat, improvisation, and audience-interaction to create an immersive experience that changes each night.

We've also made a strong bond with the cast and crew of this production. Honestly, this is the most supportive, hardworking, and understanding group of people I have had the pleasure of working with!

We need coins to continue, or it's GAME OVER."
