The Self Publication Series

Donation protected
The Self Publication—a collection of photography and personal essays designed to uplift women and men of color and combat the harsh stereotypes associated with the Black Community. The project was also created to analyze the role of media representations. According to studies, some stereotypes have been activated so frequently (for example, through media exposure) that associated responses can begin to occur unconsciously. Regardless of whether individuals choose to accept a stereotype, if they simply do not consciously recognize and analyze the representations being offered, then such images can influence the ways that they perceive and interact with the groups being stereotyped—for instance, African American women.

I've now begun work on the second publication. I was able to raise $500.00 last year. I would like to thank my friends who donated. I was able to match it by saving money to make it happen. Like I've said before this project is ongoing because my mission is to heal those who have been hurt in the culture by the acts of colorism and much more. In the first publication, 14 women were photographed and asked to reflect on the given topics. In the second publication, men will be featured as well. This project is a foundation for those looking to heal themselves while healing others.
