Project Description

About The Revival Society
An ecological design team known as The Revival Society (TRS), has formed in the heart of downtown Savannah. This group contains a variety of designers, fabricators, and artists that incorporate the Cradle to Cradle method created by architect William McDonough & chemist Michael Braungart. The group consists of makers Tara Garrigan, Sean Keeth, Phil Caridi, Jeromy Ross, Krystal Sokolis, and honorary member Matt Toole of Toole Sculpture Works . This local group of craftsmen are working together to implement more eco-friendly design systems within their community. This ranges from redesigning packaging of public goods, raising awareness through sustainable public installations, education of sustainable practices from preschool-college level, and forming an upcycling facility for creative community disposal.

About W Projects
W Projects is a creative consultant full-service agency located in Savannah, GA. They tap into the thriving markets, popular trends, and creative resources for established brands,  start-ups, corporations, and nonprofit organizations, creating greater awareness across multiple platforms. W Projects’ passion for tactical urbanism and community based projects is evident from the myriad of events that they coordinate for their clients.
About Congress for the New Urbanism
CNU advocates for changes that make it easier to build great places. They work to identify regulatory barriers, knowledge gaps, financing hurdles, and local inequalities that stand in the way of great urbanism. In response, they engage with governments, partners, professionals, and citizens at every level to make it easier to design and build places where people and businesses can thrive and prosper.

Pavement-to-Parks Sponsors
While CNU and W Projects have gathered together an amazing group of sponsors (Junkluggers , Guerry Lumber , Oatland Island Wildlife Center , JTVS Builders, Carroll Construction , Barge Design , The Savannah Sustainability Coalition , Tharpe Engineering , and Savannah Hardscapes, Coastal Roofing  ), the project still needs assistance from the community in order create Pavement-to-Parks.
A bonus prize will be given to any individual or organization donating $500 or more. For this considerable donation, you will receive one of the benches (images and description following) with customized engraving of your company name or any wording you choose within the given space limit.

Project Description
The park will be up from May 16-19th in the Civic Center parking lot. It will consist of 2 walk through structures, seating, and locally sourced flora. The central structure will be a Toole Sculpture Works  creation while all other elements of the park will be designed and created by TRS.

The bench design was created with several factors in mind: to be heavy enough for stability yet light enough to transport, have the ability to be arranged in a variety of patterns, uniquely utilize waste, and be reproduced by anyone (the pieces can easily be constructed by beginners). While making the concrete bases of the benches, the team found a way to creatively dispose of waste by filling the concrete molds with Styrofoam, aluminum, plastics, etc. With the additive of disposables they were able to save on the use of concrete, create lighter forms, and dispose of non-recyclable materials.

TRS is in the process of completing an additional installation for CNU made from plastic water bottles that have been collected and donated from local schools and businesses throughout the city.

In order to advertise the cause and to get people’s attention, the team created a series of unique monster sculptures that double as trashcans for plastic bottles. These "Bottle Monsters" are what the team uses to gather material to make the large public sculpture  for the CNU annual conference. After the conference, the structure will find its home at the Oatland Island Wildlife Center to become a permanent greenhouse structure.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about this endeavor in tactical urbanism. Support for the project can also be done through volunteering ! Please show your support through any available avenue and enjoy the park this May 2018 and into the future!
