Theresa Morgan Home Care

Donation protected
Our mom, Theresa Morgan, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma - a blood cancer that is incurable, but with various treatment methods those with this condition can live a long life with temporary complications.  Her first question when diagnosed? "Is caffeine still allowed? Because I love my Starbucks."  That's our mom, ready to face the battle that lies ahead as long as she can have coffee in hand! We have been so grateful that mom lives in Houston home of the largest cancer research center in the world.  MD Anderson has given us hope through treatment options not available anywhere else.  We count our blessings every time we are at MD Anderson and witness someone who has had to travel a great distance for care.  Through a variety of therapies our mom has been able to maintain her independence, mental sharpness, and still put together fabulous outfits. Her daughters (Jennifer and Karen) and her sister (Patricia) have assumed the medical expenses related to her diagnosis - and while mom has worked hard to financially prepare for retirement, ongoing medical expenses have been detrimental to her financial plan.  Theresa requires home care for the next 4 weeks for 8 hours/day due to intensive chemotherapy that was performed each day the week of August 10th.  She is recovering well but of course this took a physical toll.  The first hurdle was getting her to accept the fact she needs constant care and her "new normal" requires about 60% dependence on others - her loved ones achieved this through prayer and patience.  Now that she has accepted that reality, our next hurdle is funding the care. With your donation, we will be able to afford quality home health care, someone whose company my mom enjoys, and  gives us peace of mind while we are at work.  A caregiver who is educated, experienced, certified, and ethical results in higher cost - but this is what the family wants and know that my mom would want too.  While Jennifer is able to serve as the Financial and Operations Manager of the family from afar, she is not able to provide hands-on care that would help supplement some of the home care cost - a part of the need. We are hopeful that the Dr's projection of needing just 4 weeks of attentive hands-on home care is accurate and we'd like to secure the person who has been interviewed and is available as soon as possible. Asking for help is hard for anyone - but my sister and I realized that our mom Theresa is both loved and respected in her community, has loved ones who have asked how they can help  and she taught us our entire lives "have not, because you ask not."  So we ask for a donation to help with home health care - anything you donate will be greatly appreciated by my mom, Karen, Patricia, and I - God bless!
