theRedchairdiaries...2016 Premier

As many of you may already know I've spent the past three years working toward producing my first evening length solo performance. It has been a journey of self-discovery, vulnerability, opportunity, risk, and growth. And now the time has come to present the finished product. I am so honored to have been chosen as the Incubator Artist at Motion Pacific in Santa Cruz. This opportunity alone covers most of the costs that would have prevented me from being able to fulfill this dream. Being a part of the Incubator Program means that Motion Pacific generously provides and covers the cost for the performance space, offers studio space for rehearsal time and development, acts as a mentoring body to guide me through self-production, contributes to most of the PR handling, and covers all of the technical costs that come along with the production. I would not be able to present this project without the support of the incredible entity that is Motion Pacific Dance.

That said, I have a vision for this evening that goes beyond what is provided through the program, and I am in need of some help covering the costs of extra set design, as well as compensating the artists that I have commissioned to contribute to the evening. I have asked an incredible artist from Santa Cruz to create an installation that transforms the lobby of the space into an atmosphere that will help tell the history of theRedchairdiaries. I’ll be using an original score from a local band that I have grown to love. I also have a magical photographer who has generously provided me with years of photo documentation. AND one of my biggest dreams is coming true… I have commissioned someone I’ve looked up to for the last 14 years to be a part of the choreographic element. These artists have donated their time, talent, and efforts to help me in fulfilling my dreams, and to be able to compensate them for their contributions would mean the world to me.

So, I am asking you to please consider giving even the smallest amount in order to help me be able to create the evening of my dreams and to compensate the talented artists who have unselfishly helped my vision be realized. In terms of the set budget, I need $1340 to transform the space. The rest of the funds would go to pay the artists for their time, travel, and work. ANY amount helps, and I am eternally grateful in advance for your generosity. I know that is seems like we are always passing money around amongst each other in the art world, but I truly believe that it benefits everyone to keep art and dance alive. I’ve seen it change lives over and over again and impact people in ways they’ve never thought possible.

The timeline for my request is a short one. The show takes place on November 4 & 5 in Santa Cruz at Motion Pacific. I’d like to have the set elements planned and necessary pieces constructed by early October. The artists will be compensated when the show is realized.

For donations of $40 or more I will offer a ticket to the show or an exclusive link to video footage from the evening.

$100+ donors will receive a ticket to the show and custom nut butter from Nut ’n Bean.

$250+ donors will receive two tickets, Nut ’n Bean, and a custom handmade journal or a photography session with Yvonne M. Portra (you can’t go wrong either way!)

For donations over $500, we can give all of the above plus magic. We have a bag of tricks and goodies to set you up real nice ;)

I cannot put into words the gratitude I have for everyone who has been involved in making this process reach this point and your donations and support will be remembered for all time. For those of you who are not in the area and would still like to be involved somehow, I can make that happen. Just let me know what level of contribution you’d like to offer, and I’ll make sure you see the process and experience the culmination of my efforts one way or another.

Again, I thank you ahead of time and look forward to what theRedchairdiaries can become with your help. I’ve included my website address below and a link on this page to provide you with access to photo journals, and videos of the process. You can also follow the process on Instagram at theRedchairdiaries and on Facebook. Just friend request me if we aren’t already connected!

So much love and gratitude,
Katie Griffin
