There's no nose like No Nose

Donation protected
No Nose is almost here!  This story comes directly from the front lines of nature mentoring.   Picture four 4-5 year-olds standing on a deck defiantly yelling "No!" to every question their mentor asks.  First, the "no"s start individually, then in powerful union.

Do you want to go in the forest? "No!"
Do you want to play a game? "No!"
Do you want to say anything else? "No!"

Then, without even being asked questions, they chant "No!" over and over and over again, until they naturally have to slow down for a rest.  And then, in a desperate stroke of genius or absurdity their mentor interjects... "OOOOhhhhhhh.... you haven't heard the story of No Nose have you?"  And thus, for the first time, as it is being created, the story of No Nose is told.  Since that fateful day, it has become a beloved favorite of our self-named "Orange Bobcats" group and has not only served as a fun story, but also as a helpful reference tool.

This is the second oral story I am transforming into a self published children's book!  My long time friend Matt McKinney, gave me a lead on the perfect artist to bring this story into visual wonder... his brother Pat McKinney!  Pat has taken on the significant challenge of bringing a giant nose to life.  This nose emotes, and acts, and sneezes, and lives in a forest... and Pat figured out how to express all of that beautifully through art.   I am so thankful for him choosing to take on this project (I felt a little shy and "scent-sitive" upon first proposal, but very  glad I asked!).

So now it is time to bring this project into printed form.  Like my first project, it is important to me to bring my books into the physical realm (physical first maybe digital later).  Part of this is honoring a relationship and communication with the trees that are literally holding the stories.  Returning trees to forest stories is part of my mission as a children's book author and nature connection mentor.  The books will be printed on 100% recycled paper and will be printed locally here in Seattle.

Another one of my missions is to open creativity, connection, and imagination.  With more children, adults, and all people opening these aspects of self, I believe humans will make decisions that will lead us to better and better ways of living with each other and the earth.   Imagine a world where everyone shares in the joys, humors, and challenges of a giant nose that lives and learns in the forest ;)  I feel honored and blessed to be able to do this kind of work/fun/mischief in the world.  And I am grateful for everyone and everything that supports me.

Let's bring No Nose to life!  The book will be a 9x9 soft cover with a fully illustrated 32 pages and sold for $9.99.  Thanks to the work I get to do in the forest with kids, I was able to pay for the art, and now I am asking for funds to print 1500 copies.  This, for now, is my ideal size audience and brings the price per book down to a reasonable cost.  Any extended funds past my goal would allow for more No Nose books to be printed (reduced price per book/sharing the story with more people), cover the cost of taxes and the possible rising prices of paper, give Pat a much deserved bonus, give a gift to my friend and Design Chief Victoria for all the work she volunteered, and any bounty beyond that would go towards my next book!  (I have several waiting to burst out!).
I will also offer rewards for donations as follows:

$0+       Personal thank you email
$20+    Pre-order of book
$30+    Pre-order signed by author
$50+    3 copies signed by author
$100+  Signed books/massages (I just graduated from massage school and wanted to include this in my gifts of giving back!  Contact me or check the emailing list for more details/higher tiers).

Lastly, I will leave you with a vision into the future.  Imagine those four kids on the deck finding little notes that give clues to where other little notes are.  The notes lead them from the backyard into the forest just beyond their usual areas and into a place they haven't been before.  There they find a wrapped up treasure and inside are 4 books of the No Nose story that they have been hearing for the past two years.   It is the book that manifested from their very own rabble rousing.  I'm excited for that moment and I am excited to get this book into the hands of many more children and people who know a good story when they smell one :)  Please help me reach my goal and donate today!
