There is Hope- Help Morris Battle Brain Cancer!

Two Years Ago...

My husband- Morris Jude Halili was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer in the brain- ANAPLASTIC ASTROCYTOMA (WHO) Grade 3. We were a young couple with big dreams and big goals in life. We got married on the 13th of June 2017. After a month, I got pregnant. It was such a blessing to us. Everything went so smooth. Until January 2018, my husband was experiencing mild headache. We went to a Neurologist and was given pain medication. After how many days it got worst from mild to severe headache. He did not mind the pain because he was focusing on my pregnancy and soon to get birth.

After 3 days of our son’s delivery, Morris could not take the pain anymore to the extent he cannot drive and he is grasping some words. That day we had CT Scan and found out it was a BRAIN TUMOR. We also run some test like Blood chemistry, Laboratory procedures, Plain and with Contrast MRI and Functional MRI. It was seen on his scan that a 3.5x4.8x2.1 mass was noted on the left side of his brain causing the brain to swell, pushing his left sided brain (hemisphere) to the other side, thus as a result of increase intracranial pressure or headache.

Knowing this condition, I did not see my husband lose some hope. He is determined to get well not only for his sake but also for our little angel. So, he fought cancer by subjecting himself to Craniectomy (surgery) followed with 6 cycles Chemotherapy and 1-month Radiation. He managed his treatment so well even I saw him losing some hair, go to church with 26 stitches on his head and I saw how he felt tired, nauseated and vomits with chemotherapy. I saw him as a strong father and I am proud of him how he handles everything. He is truly a great fighter.

Starting the winning battle...

We had an MRI every 3 months and no tumor was seen since November 2018. He continues to go on with his normal life up until August 2019, I noticed he often forget something. MRI shows a radiation necrosis that causing him to forget or short term memory loss but thank God there was no tumor. Not until this December 19, 2019, MRI shows that his cancer had come back.

Morris felt so sad but to him he has no choice but to fight again and get rid of the cancer. We talked with his doctors and they recommended us to enroll Morris on a clinical trial- an experimental study that gives new hope to this kind of cancer. But unfortunately, he is not suitable for the trial. Morris was admitted last January 17, 2020 because of muscle weakness, he could not get up on bed, his balance was affected, he cannot describe how he feels and he cannot explain and utter the words just like before. He knew there was something wrong but he cannot describe it. He was given steroids and drugs to reduce the swelling of his brain. Thank God he responded to the treatment. But my husband still needs chemotherapy- Lomustine and Avastin because steroids is just a temporary relief. Morris should be taken to the United States for his treatment since his chemo drug Lomustine is not available here in the Philippines. Being a third world country, our healthcare system is limited, especially with this rare case. It will take thousands of dollars for us to get there.

Knocking on your hearts

I am knocking on your generous heart to kindly help Morris win this battle. We may be able to shoulder his previous treatment but this time it takes a lot of money just to get in the US and run some test again and start his medication. I have a 1 year 10 months old son to take care and a husband who is fighting for his disease. I am taking over his place as the breadwinner of the family. Sadly, we don’t have any funds right now. Morris needs to start his treatment as early as possible or not later than March. If we will not give him the right treatment, we don’t know what’s going to happen next. Time is running and I cannot give up on him without giving him a good fight. Help me fight his battle. Let’s help Morris get up again- a chance to live a normal life and be with his son. With the help of my cousin who lives in Los Angeles, she will be managing the transfer of funds to us to have Morris continue the fight.

I do appreciate people who is reading our story. I will not give up. HOPE and FAITH is what we have. God is on our side and He will not forsake us. I will also ask for your prayers that Morris will get through with his treatment without complications.

Thank you. If you wish to help please contact us and pm us. I will be delighted to get in touch with you as soon as possible.
