Therapy Dog for George
Hello! We are fundraising to get a Trained Therapy Dog, for George and the family, which will be trained and supported by Bales Buddies. Alongside this Gofundme page we are trying to get additional funding from local charities etc.
As some of you know, George has an extremely rare syndrome that affects every part of his life, there are only around 18 recorded cases worldwide. Most children with George’s condition die at birth or shortly afterwards, however George has exceeded the doctors expectations and is the happiest 6 year old boy you will meet! We are a big family, with 7 children, and along with George’s needs, 2 of George’s brothers are both on the autism spectrum, making everyday life that little bit trickier for everyone.
We have been considering getting a Therapy Dog for the family for around a year now. We have realised that it would not only benefit George but the whole family hugely! Bale’s Buddies would train the puppy and support us with the ongoing training that a Therapy Dog requires. Some of the things that the dog would be trained to do are; Barking to alert us when George is silently choking at night; Accompanying George and us to the hospital when George gets poorly; Intervening Oscar’s and Harry’s destructive meltdowns; Keeping Oscar safe when out in public, he has no awareness of danger and often runs away; Preventing said meltdowns and helping with transitions to different places; Providing deep pressure therapy as a form of sensory feedback; Laying with George and giving cuddles; Emotional support and companionship that only a dog can provide. A dog would also provide all of the children with a loving companion, who they can go to when they’re feeling all of the emotions that come with having a severely disabled brother.
We have been told that a puppy can be available to us in mid July and we are really hoping to raise enough money to be able to pay Bales Buddies the deposit and get the pup as soon as they’re ready to come home. The training will be intensive and will begin from early in the pups life right up until they’re two, however Bales Buddies offer lifetime support for their dogs and families so we feel confident that any changes in George’s condition can be monitored and we can use the dog to aid where they can to provide solace and support during some very challenging times.
