I am Rosey La Rouge, aka Coleen Scott, a costume designer and performer, raisng funds for a burlesque costume history project called The Pastie Project.
The project is a photo archive of actual burlesque pasties throughout history, and a showcase of the variety of pasties that exist now, in the neo burlesque movement. The archive photos are taken by Ben Trivett, and with our book editor Tiny D, we hope to publish a book of our project by next summer.
We are looking to raise money for some of the elements needed to complete the book, including original illustrations by Fyodor A. Pavlov, and historic photos from the Library of the Performing Arts in NYC. Additionally, some products and vintage pasties are being purchased for the archive, and this takes funding!
We would also like to advertise our project to encourage more performers to take part, by taking out ads in the programs at BurlyCon and The New York Burlesque Festival.
We are trying to raise these funds in the next two months, to have time to place ads and begin completing the layout of the book with only a few more pieces to collect.
The costume history of burlesque is not well documented. To have a record of the construction of pasties, throughout their history, would be an invaluable gift to give to the burlesque community who have done so much to change my life for the better. This record is also significant for the theater community who should recognize the legitimacy and value of the innovations of burlesque and it's performers throughout the years.
Receiving the funding would mean that completion of this project will be possible, and we will be able to publish the book the way we want to, in an artful, beautiful volume, that tells the story we want it to.
