The US infant mortality rate is the worst in the developed world.   

I am a textile artist in southern Arizona. My vision for TheMourningProject.com is that each of the infants lost in a given year will be remembered with a unique, handmade little elegy. I am asking the fiber art community around the country to come together to make 23,000 pairs of baby booties between Labor Day 2018 and Mothers Day 2019. That is one pair of shoes for each child lost in a given year.

Gathered together these small elegies will paint a picture too big to ignore. I will create a travelling art installation to remind us of this tragedy, and advocate for policies that we know can save lives.

Funds raised with GoFundMe will be used to create, store, and prepare exhibition materials for the travelling art exhibition over several years.  I will take no salary as founder of TheMourningProject.com.  Any leftover funds will be donated to the March of Dimes, a national organization dedicated to reducing infant mortality.
