Thelma's Legacy

When most of us think of Thelma, we remember her sense of humor and funny jokes. She was kind, generous, and had the kind of laugh that you just couldn't help but join in. For as long as I have know her, she had always talked about having a family of her own. She met the love of her life, Jimmy Pendleton, and together they set goals and started working on a life to have that family. After a couple of heartbreaking miscarriages, they were overjoyed to announce that they were finally having a healthy pregnancy.   On the night of August 2, Thelma began having severe pain in her stomach, and Jimmy rushed her to the hospital. They feared that another miscarriage was imminent. Thelma was having trouble catching her breath, and the baby's heart rate was quickly dropping. Through an emergency c-section, baby Emily emerged into the world and has been thriving well in the hospital. Thelma, on the other hand, was rushed into the ICU, where she fought the hardest she could for her life. She was a new mom, and was eager to hold her baby and experience the joys of motherhood. Her strength amazed all of us. There were days that seemed hopeful, and other days that were simply questionable.  She fought and she fought. On September 13, 2018, Thelma passed away surrounded by her closest family. Heaven has received another angel. Thelma's legacy lives on through baby Emily. Jimmy not only has lost the love of his life, the mother of his child, but he also has to navigate the world as a single father with a newborn baby. We all know that being a parent is tough. Being a single parent, however, is unimaginable.
