Our friends, the Hartley family, need our help!
I have set up this fund to help support the Hartley’s immediate and short term needs in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. As many of you have heard, they have lost everything -- their home, vehicles, and all of the contents, are under water due to the extreme flooding in the Houston area. They will not have access to their property for a while, and even then, their home will be uninhabitable due to mold and dangerous conditions created during this type of flooding. Having grown up with Kelly, and knowing the Hartleys for many years, I know this is something they would never ask on their own. They are always the first to help others, to open their hearts and home, and are the type of friends that we all strive to be.
Having evacuated on foot, through high flood waters, the Hartleys have taken nothing with them. They are in immediate need of toiletries, clothing, shoes, and other daily essentials. In the near short-term, they will be in need of lodging, vehicles, and the means to maintain their livelihood in order to rebuild.
While insurance covers many things, it never covers everything, especially given the devastation of disasters like Harvey. The claims process is likely to be long and complicated due to the sheer number of those affected. There is no way for me to predict what costs they will incur in the coming days and months, but I know things can add up quickly and come out of nowhere. I know that the Hartleys appreciate the outpouring of love and concern shown during this unimaginably difficult time. Despite this devastating loss, they consider themselves extremely fortunate and know that many in Houston have more precarious circumstances. Any funds raised in excess of the Hartleys’ actual need, will be donated forward by them to other families in their direct community impacted by this disaster.
