Brisbane to Melbourne

Donation protected
On September 17th ourselves; Nick, Ed, Miles and Jimmy will be leaving Brisbane and embarking on a 2000km journey to Melbourne with just bicycles, camping equipment and essential supplies to see us there. We estimate the trip will take us 6-8 weeks with rest days included to allow us to take in the beautiful east coast of Australia. Naturally weather conditions, injuries and bicycle repairs could potential impact our arrival date however one thing is for certain we will be getting to Melbourne regardless of any adversity that may come our way!

It seemed only right to carry out such a challenge in aid of charity and therefore we have selected three charities that all have a personal connection to members of the cycling team. On rest days we hope to raise awareness for the three charities in the various locations we will find ourselves in. The causes we are fighting for will provide us with all the motivation we will need when cycling up to 10 hours on some ride days, made more difficult by the hot Australian sun.

Between us we have very little cycling experience and have never been enthused by a bicycle enough to cycle even 20km. Training has commenced however and with a few cheap training bikes we are starting to rack up the kilometres in preparation for the adventure.

The money raised will be split evenly between the three charities and they are as follows:

Children's Cancer Foundation
The Children's Cancer Foundations mission statement is to enable children with cancer to access the world’s best treatment and support and to build awareness of childhood cancer in the community and within governments. The Children’s Cancer Foundation supports families through treatment, partners with hospitals to deliver clinical excellence and builds world-class paediatric cancer clinical research.

Muscular Dystrophy UK
Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity for the 70,000 people living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. We bring together people affected by more than 60 rare and very rare progressive muscle-weakening and wasting conditions.

Muscle-wasting conditions are very rare, affecting just over one in every 1,000 people. As a result, some health professionals may never come across anyone with a muscle-wasting condition and may not know much about them. But we do.

Since 1959, we’ve been supporting families living with muscle-wasting conditions. We provide vital information, advice, resources and support for people with these conditions, their families and the professionals who work with them.

Andy's Man Club
“Andy’s Man Club”, is a space for men to talk about their problems without judgement or feeling like a burden. What started as a small support group in Halifax, UK has ballooned into a Facebook group of thousands, with more clubs since set up across the UK. The associated campaign, #itsokaytotalk, has drawn support from prominent celebrities including Danny Cipriani and Ricky Gervais.

From the four of us we want to thank you so much for taking the time to visit the page and donate. The main aim of this cycle is for us to spread and raise awareness for these remarkable charities and help them continue the fantastic work they do day in day out. This is a chance for us all to help and keep the fight going.
