The Evan Effect: Spreading Goodness

Donation protected
Our hero Evan passed away on August 29, 2013 at 24 years young, after a courageous nine year battle fighting cancer (synovial sarcoma) the after effects of his treatment. He was an inspiration to all who knew him, because even through cancer, chemo, radiation, countless chest surgeries, treatments, and medications, he continued to radiate a positive attitude, appreciate each day, look at things with a child-like wonder, show compassion to everyone and everything, and laugh often. He was always concerned with others and had he had the chance, he would have accomplished SO much with his brilliant mind and outstanding musical talent. Evan was a true renaissance man.

In his absence, we, his family and friends, feel his legacy must continue. He had so much passion for giving and helping people and animals. We feel empowered to support such causes in the name of our beautiful, witty, funny, big-smile-wearing guy, and boldly spread this passion, now better known as the EVAN EFFECT.

This year, we have dedicated the Evan Effect to the place where his medical journey began, Children's Hospital Los Angeles http://www.chla.org, on the 4th Floor West Wing. Evan not only received outstanding medical care and beat cancer, but his doctors and nurses became a second family to him (and now us). He kept in touch with his favorites until his death. They, too, agree that he was something special.

This August, on the one year anniversary of Evan's death, we would like to bring some joy to the kids undergoing treatment at Evan's second "home" on 4-West. We found an amazing organization, Spirit Hoods. The animal-themed hoods are warm, cozy, and empowering- a perfect gift for a child or teen undergoing chemo and radiation! The company also fits Evan's criteria as it donates 10% of the proceeds to endangered animal groups.

So, here is the plan, we are collecting donations towards the purchase of about 50 child sized hoods and about 20 adult sized (for the teens) hoods to distribute at CHLA 4-West on August 29th. If you feel like you would rather pick out a Spirit Hood personally, you may choose one from the site: http://www.spirithoods.com
and have it shipped directly to Evan's mom (please message me at top right of screen for a 10% off code and the direct shipping address before you purchase).

We know that had Evan received a spirit hood during his chemo and radiation cycles he would have ROCKED it (his pick would have been the wolf!). He loved being different, and these hoods scream individuality!

Thank you so much for participating in the first year of the Evan Effect!  We carry Evan's love & passion with us every day and know that this is a great start in continuing his legacy. His appreciation of the "little things" remind us to live each day to it's fullest and to always try to be the best versions of ourselves. We hope his story inspires you too!

Big hugs from Evan's family,
Big Sister Elisa & Mama Michelle
