My name is Madrona and I am the Director of The Backyard Homesteader. This is a community based Learning center for sustianability that we are starting in South Thurston Co. It is our hope to enrich improvished communities with education making them more self sustianing. Bringing about a richer community in the long run. I am married to Curtis DeLong and we have sx children and a Auntie, Vicki, who is our modern day Alice. Curtis and I adopted three of our six children and together have been building this shared dream for years. Two years ago, we came upon a opportunity to builld a home, and purchase it with the help of some people we meet locally.
We took a 5 acre parcel that had essentially been a scrap metal pile with a old house. Tore that house down and using materials found through reuse and Craigslist built a lovely home that is solid for our family and community. This has been a act of Love from everyone involved, we now have 1 and a half acre garden, animals, and berries all producing beautifully.
This last week we were given notice that our rental home that we had been living in while building is to be solid and the owners of both places have insisted on the $8300 by the middle of September or they are intending on selling the very farm we have been building as well. This will leave my family homeless and The Backyard Homesteader broken with no place to home the change we are trying to bring for a better world. We have used all that we have to make this a reality please help us stop this from slipping through our fingers.
