The Luczkowski Family

On June 8, 2014, identical twin sons George and Miles were born to loving first-time parents Len and Meghann Luczkowski. They were born pretty early at one day shy of 32 weeks! George got plucked first at 11:18am and was 3lbs 13oz, 17 inches long. Miles made his entrance 2 minutes later and was 2lbs 15oz, 13 inches long.
On the same happy day that they found out they were having boys, Meghann and Len also found out that there seemed to be an issue with Miles' growth. After weeks and months of tests, scans, specialist consultations, genetic work ups and some scary false diagnoses, it had been determined that Miles was going to be born with a skeletal dysplasia, meaning a form of dwarfism.
Both boys received amazing care together in a local NICU for about 5 weeks, but Miles was in need of much more specialized medical care. Now George is currently happy and home with mom and dad and Miles is being looked after at DuPont Hospital for Children in Delaware. It is a struggle running between two babies in two different states, but they are amazing little guys and all together they make one happy family!
There are foreseeable and unforeseeable costs in regards to Miles' extra special circumstances as well as the Luczkowski's household in general. Miles will require countless appointments with specialists and therapists and these will all be crucial in Miles' progress.
Soon Miles will be coming home on long-term breathing support. He will require around the clock care from a trained caregiver (which will include both parents, Meghann and Len) until he gets strong enough to breathe on his own (which could be months or years). Both parents will unfortunately have to take a lot of unpaid time from work.
As any family with a special needs child, they are figuring out their long term plan as they go. Everyone's financial situation is different, and they so greatly appreciate the outpouring of love and support from their family and friends.
Friends and family from near and far have been asking how they can help. We all want totake some of the stress and pressure off of Meghann and Len as they handle all these new challenges! This account was created and is being maintained as a way to allow The Luczkowski Family to accept all of your loving offers of help, while allowing them to keep their focus where it is needed most --- on caring for their beautiful baby boys!
