Theatre Contra is devoted to telling stories of conflict and conviction.
Our first season has been a huge success! First we staged Eugene Ionesco’s The Lesson : an absurdist dramedy that was a hit with audiences.
In December 2018 we started our Contra Reading Series . After performing both Die Hard and National Treasure to packed houses, and we can’t wait to stage Speed in May!
Now, we are planning our final production of the 2018/19 season: an untitled Wonderland Project. This devised, fully produced and immersive play takes the audiences on a gut-wrenching and thought-provoking journey about the story behind the creation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. Featuring a majority female cast and an all female design team, we can't wait to go down this rabbit hole.
And this is where we need you! So far, we have been able to raise about half of the cost of this production through individual donations and our Reading Series, but in order to bring the next story to life (and the one’s after that), we need your help!
42 is a number that is often referenced by Lewis Carroll in his work, so 42 is our goal…well…times 100. If we can raise $4200 by July 4th, we will be able to do the following:
· Fully fund our Wonderland project, paying every artist and technician involved, gathering props, costumes, set pieces and more. Making an experience that you won’t forget
· Fund Sequel September! You are among the first to know! We are doing a staged reading of every sequel to the movies we’ve read so far, all in one month! We’ll be able to pay our actors, secure a space, and make the month a hit.
· Fund our 2019/20 Reading Series featuring: Face/Off, Twister, The Princess Bride, and The Big Lebowski.
· And so much more!
Your help won’t go unrecognized! Every donation will receive a shoutout on social media, and every donation $10 and above will receive a little bonus….
· $10 – March Hare Level – We’d invite you to tea any month of the year. You’ll get recognition in all stagebills through August 2020
· $25 – Knave of Hearts Level – You’re royalty in our hearts. Enjoy a custom print made by ensemble member (and wonderland set designer) Eliana Fabiyi.
· $50 – White Rabbit Level – We’d never be late for you. As a thank you, you’ll receive a Theatre Contra Tote Bag and special behind the scenes emails and offers.
· $100 – Cheshire Cat Level – You put a smile on our face. You’ll get all of the above plus a Theatre Contra cocktail glass and special invites to donor events (tea party anyone?).
· $250 – Queen of Hearts Level – We’ve lost our heads over you! You’ll get all of the above, a personalized drink recipe inspired by you created by katedrinks (@katedrinks) and made for you at the show, along with two tickets to the production. You can also pick any movie reading to be a honorary producer for.
· $500 – Mad Hatter Level – Some say you’re mad. We say you’re madly amazing. You’ll get all of the above, plus a take home drink kit to make your custom drink at home, four tickets to the show, and an honorary producer credit on the full 2019/20 season.
